Built on the advanced LEAP 4.0 technical architecture, the new vehicle offers both pure electric (EV) and extended-range (EREV) powertrain options. It is equipped with a chassis combination of dual-chamber closed air suspension and CDC dynamic damping. This model was first unveiled last year during Leapmotor’s tenth anniversary. Interior layout The Leapmotor D99 features a 2+2+3 seating configuration. The front cockpit continues the design language of the Leapmotor D19, featuring a large central control screen, a liquid crystal instrument cluster, and a Head-Up Display (HUD). Rear passengers are treated to a ceiling-mounted entertainment screen. The front seatbacks can be fully reclined to form a continuous “bed” with the second-row seats. The second row itself is equipped with rotatable seats that can turn 90 degrees for scenic viewing or 180 degrees to face the third row, creating a mobile lounge. A large central table is also available. The third row offers heating functions and multiple electric folding modes. These seats can be stowed completely flat into the trunk floor or flipped backwards to create a “fishing seat” configuration. Like the front rows, the third-row backrests also support a full-flat recline. Exterior design and dimensions The D99 maintains Leapmotor’s signature family design, characterised by split headlights and “pie-shaped” wheels. The vehicle is equipped with DLP projection headlights at the front and ISD interactive light screens at the rear. In terms of dimensions, the Leapmotor D99 measures 5280 mm in length, 1995 mm in width, and 1900 mm (or 1880 mm) in height, with a wheelbase of 3110 mm. Technology and performance On the technology front, the D99 is powered by dual 8797 assisted-driving chips, delivering 1280 TOPS of computing power. The powertrain specifications vary by model: EREV Version: Built on an 800V high-voltage platform, it features an 80.3 kWh battery pack providing a WLTC pure electric range of 352 km. It is powered by a 1.5T range extender and dual motors with maximum outputs of 100 kW (134 hp) and 200 kW (268 hp). EV Version: Upgraded to a 1000V high-voltage platform, this version utilises a 115 kWh battery pack from CATL, achieving a CLTC range of 700 km. Its dual motors deliver maximum outputs of 180 kW (241 hp) and 230 kW (308 hp). As a startup, Leapmotor’s sales in April hit a historical high, with 71,387 units sold, representing a 73.9% increase year-on-year and a 42.7% increase month-on-month.
