A newly hired Discount Tire employee recently had an exchange with a coworker who took a very different interest in his Audi than he expected. Jaeden Mais (@jaeden.mais), a self-described car enthusiast, says the moment came just days into his new job at Discount Tire. A coworker noticed his car in the parking lot and asked about it. "Is that your Audi outside?" Mais recalls the coworker asking. Mais says he confirmed the Audi is his, assuming a compliment was coming next. Instead, the conversation took a sharp turn. According to Mais, the coworker zeroed in on the one thing you probably don’t want critiqued at a tire shop. "Yo, your tires are bald as [expletive]," Mais recounts the coworker saying. The blunt assessment caught him off guard, especially given where he works. In the clip, Mais jokes that the exchange quickly turned into a realization that his Audi might be overdue for some maintenance. "I think it’s about time we get new tires," he adds, holding out hope that his new job comes with a solid employee discount. The short video struck a chord with viewers, particularly those who’ve learned the hard way that working around car experts can be a humbling experience. As of this writing, Mais’ video has racked up more than 91,200 views. How Much Is The Employee Discount? Discount Tire employees do tend to get a meaningful break on tires, but that’s not the only perk the store offers its employees. Its website boasts that, in addition to discounts on "tires, wheels, and accessories," workers can also take advantage of perks such as tuition reimbursement and specific scholarship opportunities. What’s less clear is how much exactly Discount Tire employees get off their purchases, especially if they’re buying new tires. In the r/DiscountTire subreddit, several former workers said savings are often around 30%, with deeper discounts on accessories like wiper blades. In some cases, employees said the discounts can extend to family and close friends, though that didn’t seem to be true at all Discount Tire locations. Beyond discounts on tires and other car parts, Discount Tire claims to foster an overall culture of "caring" for employees, which means lower prices on car parts, along with training and advancement opportunities. And for people who drive a lot, a benefit like 30% off tire costs can be a lifesaver. After all, tires aren’t cheap, and even a modest percentage off can mean saving hundreds of dollars when it’s time for a complete set. In short, while the 30% discount isn’t guaranteed to be the same every time, most employees can expect a solid price cut that’s well below what the average customer gets walking in off the street. Employees Confirm Discount Tire Workers Get Solid Perks Viewers who watched Mais’ clip, many of whom identified as current or former Discount Tire employees, confirmed that employee discounts on tires can range from 30% to 50%, though they said the exact savings often depend on the brand. "Wait 90 days for your employee discount," one person advised. "I got my Continentals for 30% off with the 50% employee rebate." "You get 30% plus some manufacturers give you massive rebates back," another added. "Get Continentals! You get 50% of your money back," a third echoed. "I just bought wheels and tires for 2,200 instead of 3,000, and I get 500 back in a few weeks." Mais responded, "That’s the plan, 50% rebate is awesome." Even with the perks, some former employees warned that working at the store isn’t all smooth sailing. "Bro’s abt [to] get the Discount Tire depression," one user joked. "As a former Discount Tire employee, don’t stay long, bro," another said. "Learn how to be great and leave them wishing they still had you there." Still, plenty of people said the job can be enjoyable. "If you work with good people with great attitudes, it’s so much fun," one man commented. Mais replied, "So far, liking all my coworkers."
