Chrysler Teases Upcoming Brand-Saving Airflow SUVStellantis (Stellantis)A Stellantis YouTube video provided a quick glimpse of the new Chrysler Airflow, a compact SUV that will start at under $40,000.The Airflow has modern styling and appears to feature a transverse-mounted gas engine, but may also offer hybrid and electric setups.Fiat also published the first official image of its new Grizzly models, which will be rebadged as the Chrysler Arrow and Arrow Cross in the United States.A couple of weeks ago, Stellantis laid out its product plans for the next five years for its quartet of American brands, from a new Dodge Copperhead sports car to a two-door V-8 truck called the Jeep Wrangler Scrambler. While not quite as exciting, we also learned that Chrysler is planning a trio of new SUVs, and one of them was just sneakily revealed in a new promotional video. In a video about powertrains posted to the Stellantis YouTube channel, Stellantis provided the first clear look at the Chrysler Airflow. While it was not labeled as such, we were able to see full-scale models of many of the upcoming products at Stellantis Investor Day in May and can confirm that the SUV seen on the far right of the lineup in this video is the upcoming Airflow, which is expected to start at less than $40,000.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Airflow has modern, crisp styling, and the look seen in this video lines up exactly with what we saw at Stellantis headquarters in May. The profile is boxy, with a hint of Hyundai Ioniq 5.The Airflow will fit into the compact-SUV segment, albeit with a roofline that's a bit lower than the likes of the Toyota RAV4 thanks to the new STLA One platform that will underpin it.Stellantis (Stellantis)An LED strip running across the front end includes an illuminated Chrysler badge, while vertical elements frame a trapezoidal lower grille element. A black cutout along the bottom of the side doors reduces the visual mass, while the rear features tall vertical LED headlights. Overall, the design is quite a departure from the Airflow concept that Chrysler first showed in 2022, which had a smoother, more streamlined look. The video also gives us a hint of what to expect beneath the Airflow's hood. The STLA One platform on which the Airflow will ride is slated to launch in 2027 and will support a wide variety of powertrains. The 800-volt-capable architecture will be able to spawn EVs, but hybrid and pure-gasoline setups are also in the mix.Stellantis (Stellantis)From this video, it appears that the Airflow will feature an internal-combustion setup, with what appears to be a transversely mounted turbocharged engine. This could be the 1.6-liter four-cylinder found in the Jeep Cherokee, without the hybrid bits, which makes 177 horsepower on its own and is also in a variety of Peugeot and Citroën models.AdvertisementAdvertisementWe wouldn't be surprised to see this engine in the Chrysler in both nonhybrid and hybrid guise, with the potential for an electric variant to join the lineup later, depending on market conditions. Higher trims could also feature the 324-hp Hurricane 4 turbocharged engine that debuted in the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee.Stellantis (Stellantis)Plus: Smaller Crossovers Coming via FiatThe Airflow will be joined by two smaller crossovers, the Arrow and Arrow Cross, which will be rebadged versions of the Fiat Grizzly. Fiat also recently published an official image showing the Grizzly Fastback (Chrysler Arrow) and Grizzly (Arrow Cross), which gives a great idea of what to expect from the Chrysler variants. We saw models for the Arrow and Arrow Cross in May, and they looked nearly identical to these Fiats, albeit with slightly different lighting graphics up front and an illuminated Chrysler logo. Fiat says the Grizzly models are under 177 inches, making them a tad smaller than the Chevy Trax. The Fiats will be offered with a range of powertrains, from pure gas to fully electric, but it's unclear what exactly will motivate these subcompact SUVs when they arrive here with Chrysler badges. Still, Chrysler has promised an attractive starting price of less than $30,000.AdvertisementAdvertisement➡️ Skip the lot.
