2027 Chrysler Pacifica: Laziest Update Ever?ChryslerImages of camo-covered Chrysler Pacificas first appeared nearly two years ago.The update brought new front styling and a corporate badge design but not much else. The 2027 Chrysler Pacifica LX retains the original 2017–2020 front-end design, but it incorporates both the old and new badge designs.Approximately two years ago, the first images of camouflage-covered Pacifica mules hit the internet. Marking the minivan's second update since first debuting for the 2017 model year, the 2027 Chrysler Pacifica was due to bring major changes to the aging family shuttle.Alas, the finished product ultimately boiled down to little more than a reworked front-end design and the appearance of a new Chrysler emblem. The rest of the body design, cabin, and powertrain, however, remained effectively unchanged.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn fact, parent company Stellantis didn't even bother to invest in new designs for the in-car display's graphic rendering of the vehicle, with the old front styling continuing to serve duty as a menu icon and in the surround-view camera. That seemed pretty lazy until we stumbled upon a listing for a new 2027 Pacifica LX on the Car and Driver marketplace.Michael Simari - Car and DriverThe Pacifica LX carries on the torch of the prior Voyager, employing the exterior design cues of the 2017–2020 Pacifica. Selling older product alongside a newer counterpart is not uncommon, though typically this practice rarely extends beyond a single model year. What is uncommon, though, is Chrysler's decision to pin the brand's prior badge design on the exterior of the entry-level Pacifica LX while also fitting the model with a steering wheel that features the new badge design.Upon first seeing images of 2027 Pacifica LXs by dealerships that included the new badge design on their steering wheel, we initially thought that these dealers must have gotten confused and accidentally attached the wrong interior images to the listing. But then we looked at another ad, and another, and another, and another, until we concluded that either Chrysler dealers were in on a collective campaign to troll us or that Stellantis's bean counters really did prevent the brand from either producing a separate airbag cover for the steering wheels of Pacifica LXs (or from fitting the new-style badges to the exterior of the carryover Pacifica variant).ChryslerLogically, our next step was to go to the Chrysler consumer site and build a Pacifica LX ourselves, and sure enough, it confirmed what we suspected. Chrysler really is fitting 2027 Pacifica LXs with different iterations of the brand's badge.AdvertisementAdvertisementSo, what are we to make of this? Well, from a functional standpoint, nothing. Neither the Pacifica LX nor its buyers suffer in any way from this identity crisis. However, it does say a lot about the leadership of Chrysler, and in turn Stellantis, which seemed to have decided that branding consistency and a propensity to sweat the details were small sacrifices worth making in the name of saving a few pennies.ChryslerThe latest iteration of its winged badge serves "as the blueprint for the next-generation of Chrysler vehicles," per the brand. If the updated Pacifica is anything to go by, then the focus of this blueprint seems less oriented toward customer satisfaction and more toward cutting corners and pinching pennies.➡️ Skip the lot.
