Sometimes a three-row SUV can be about much more than practicality and hauling the kids to the next soccer game. At least that's how Hennessey views things, based on its unleashing of the new VelociRaptor SUV Expedition. Ford launched its all-new fifth-generation full-size Expedition in 2025, and Hennessey, the Texas-based tuner of high-performance SUVs, cars, and trucks, decided there was room for a version that could do a bit more where the pavement turns to dirt or rock.Hennessey So Hennessey started with a stock Expedition Tremor – a new trim package offering as of last year – and focused on adapting the unsprung mass, adding a dedicated off-road suspension with two more inches of ground clearance (for a total of 12.6 inches) in creating the VelociRaptor. Brembo Brakes, Bespoke Rims, New A/T Tires Behind the bespoke 20-inch Hennessey Performance rims are red Brembo calipers clamping the front ventilated brake rotors. The 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires from the factory also get swapped out for upgraded Recon Grappler all-terrain rubber manufactured by Nitto. Finishing the VelociRaptor is an integrated LED off-road lighting package for better nighttime visibility.Hennessey As for power, this is where things get a bit surprising. Hennessey left the factory's work to stand on its own. Ford’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 churns out 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, the same as in a stock ExpeditionTremor. For a company that regularly builds 1,000-horsepower muscle cars and has a hypercar that goes nearly 300 mph, seeing something with a stock engine is very different indeed.“The demand we’re seeing for high-performance SUVs and trucks continues to grow rapidly, especially from customers who want something distinctive," said Alex Roys, president of Hennessey. But a high-performance truck must also be comfortable and practical for everyday life. "Ford’s Expedition platform gives us an outstanding foundation that we enhance with bold Hennessey design," said Roys.Hennessey Hennessey VelociRaptor SUV Expedition Priced At $129,950 Beyond the performance upgrades, there are exterior modifications as well, for a more assertive look. The VelociRaptor gets an upgraded front bumper and Hennessey-branded steel front skid plates for added protection off-road. The power sidestep also gets a Hennessey upgrade, which will be appreciated for people of small stature trying to climb into this lifted behemoth.Hennessey told CarBuzz the new VelociRaptor is priced at $129,950, including the base Expedition vehicle price, which starts at $81,000. It will be produced in "extremely limited numbers." For context, Hennessey's Ford F-150 VelociRaptor 500, with extensive powertrain upgrades, starts at $135,000. Hennessey says all its modified vehicles are dyno-tested, road-tested, fully street-legal, and covered by a three-year / 36,000-mile limited warranty. CarBuzz Insight – Why This Matters: Sure, SUVs are popular, and perhaps there are a small number of Americans willing to shell out money like this for a vehicle that starts depreciating the moment it leaves the Hennessey lot. But this shop in Texas has demonstrated time and again that car enthusiasts with big bank accounts are plentiful in the US. Heck, without this audience we might not even have Hennessey or a viable business model to support hundreds of tuners, modifiers, and custom shops from Southern California to the Northeast. It's interesting that, by Hennessey standards, this is not a bonkers build. It has stock horsepower! Perhaps even Hennessey is trying to expand its customer base a bit with more modest vehicles with slightly lower pricing.hennessey-ford-expedition-tremor-velociraptor-suv-01
