GMC Hummer X Pickup and SUV Concepts Aim at WranglerGMC (GMC)GMC has unveiled a new set of mid-size Hummer concepts called the Hummer X SUV and the Hummer X Pickup. The concepts are down one class each from the absurdly large Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup that the company currently sells.Unfortunately for those who would appreciate the mid-size Hummers, GMC made clear in its announcement that the concepts are "not intended for production."Bigger may be better, but variety is the spice of life, in cars as much as anything else. Who doesn't want more options? GMC just revealed a new pair of electric concept cars that size down the brand's current elephantine EV lineup. The concepts don't stray too far from their roots, with GMC unveiling a pair of mid-size Hummer concepts called the Hummer X SUV and the Hummer X Pickup. The concepts are immediately recognizable as part of the Hummer family, though there are a few key visual changes compared with the current production lineup. For starters, the SUV takes on a multi-tone approach, with a red canopy stretched over the cabin. The bodywork is different too, with long cutouts along the hipline cut into the body panels—though both concepts feature flat roofs similar to their larger siblings.AdvertisementAdvertisementAt 116 inches, the SUV's wheelbase is just a hair shorter than the Ford Bronco's 116.1-inch wheelbase and right in the ballpark of the four-door Jeep Wrangler's 118.4-inch wheelbase. At 188 inches from nose to tail, the Hummer X SUV is eight inches shorter than the current production SUV. The pickup's 130.7-inch wheelbase and 207.3-inch overall length measure five and 10 inches shorter, respectively, than the production model.Aside from their smaller size and slightly different styling, the Hummer X concepts also come with some fun concept-y features. Those features are headlined by a family of apps called the "Hummer Hub," as well as a scout drone that the automaker said can be sent up the trail to spot any obstacles in real time, before returning and docking itself.GMC (GMC)Unfortunately, for as cool as it would be to see GMC bring the new Hummer concepts to production, that doesn't seem to be the plan. According to the automaker, the concepts are "not intended for production" and are instead a test bed for new technologies and new aesthetics.➡️ Skip the lot.
