Genesis is pumping out concept after concept, and many of them are making it to production. Hypercars, an SUV with coach-opening doors, and even the glorious G90 Wingback station wagon. But what about a minivan? Genesis has just shown off a minivan concept, and a new report says that it is going to go on sale by 2029. Luxury Vans Are The Rage In The World's Biggest Car Market Genesis Minivans in the US are coming back from the brink, but they still aren't exactly market trend-setters. That's different in parts of Europe and much of Asia, where luxury buyers have learned it's better to ride around in the back of an incredibly posh van than to drive or be crammed into the back of a stiffly-sprung SUV that never goes off-road.The report from Media Auto purports to confirm that Genesis is developing a minivan as it looks to grow the brand in China. It has been there since 2021, but it hasn't exactly been a hit. A minivan could change that, and the report says that it will be built in China to make sure it is ready to meet the unique demands of ultra-luxury buyers there. Oh, and to avoid tariffs.According to the report, it will probably be an extended-range EV. Using China's test cycle, that could mean 1,000 miles of range with electric power for city centers and other urban areas.Instead of just adding more leather and wood and making it driver-focused like the Magma concept, this is going to lean into luxury. That includes highly adjustable rear seats, massive screens, and all the autonomous driving features the brand can cram into one model. Buyers In China Want Their Space Mercedes-BenzKorean Car Blog gets into the reasons why ultra-luxury minivans are the new hot item in China. It says that the country's "One Child Policy" meant families didn't need loads of space. Now that wealthy buyers have big families, they're migrating to the natural choice: Minivans. This isn't new. Lexus has the LM, Toyota has the Alphard, Zeeker has its 009, and Mercedes-Benz has just revealed its Vision V concept (the photo right above this) that's nicer than any private jet. Even Kia has one, in the form of the Carnival Hi Limousine that's nicer than anything you can buy over here.Genesis The starting point is the Genesis Jet On Wheels design study. The company showed that MPV as part of a whole portfolio of concepts it published last month. The concept really does look like a jet, including a curved canopy-like windshield. It was missing one thing, at least in concept form. The vehicle didn't have any doors. Genesis could fix that easily enough to move forward with the project. That ultra-curved windshield might be the real problem, though. It looks like it would cost a fortune. The biggest issue for Genesis might be the scope of its plans. With so many new model ideas that are either on the way or close to on the way, will it become overwhelmed? The brand has arguably been the most successful break into the luxury segment since Lexus, though, and if it wants to keep that growth, more models could be the best way.
