Ever since Genesis revealed the G90 Wingback Magma concept, we've been hounding the brand to find out if it was actually going to build it and if the wagon was going to make it to the US. Genesis has just made a second announcement that gives us more hope for it, and some other of the brand's recent concepts. The luxury brand has a rather ambitious product plan. It will launch nearly two dozen new models by the end of this decade, specifically for North America. Surely a hot wagon will be among them, right? Right, Genesis? 22 New Genesis Models For US By 2030 Brett Evans / CarBuzz / Valnet CEO Jose Muñoz made the announcement today at the New York Auto Show, as part of a business update ahead of showing the new Hyundai Boulder concept. That means a total of 58 new Hyundai and Genesis vehicles on this continent for 2030. And unlike the Hyundais, the US is probably going to get all of them. The announcement doesn't mean that there will be 22 all-new additions to the model lineup, just that there will be 22 new models. That can mean mid-cycle refreshes on existing vehicles, next-generation launches, and so forth. But we struggle to see how those alone can account for 22 in just four years. How Genesis counts models, though, is the sticking point.Brett Evans / CarBuzz / Valnet If you hit the company's site, it lists 13 models on sale now. That list blends and separates in a strange way, though, including, for example, the GV80 2.5T and 3.5T as one model, but listing the GV80 Black separately. Look at the nameplates, splitting up only electric and non-electric, and you get eight models. The only way we can get close to 22 is by counting every trim and RWD/AWD separately. The takeaway, however, is that climbing to 22 will mean new things. Some of those new things will be extended-range EVs. Genesis has spoken about those models before, and we're expecting to see the first one by the end of the year.New things will also include new models. Muñoz said that it will enter new segments along with delivering "experiences designed around the Korean tradition of treating every customer as our son-nim, our honored guest." Expect EREV, Magma... And Wagon? Brett Evans / CarBuzz / Valnet Magma versions of Genesis vehicles will almost certainly make up some of the 22. The Korean luxury brand has shown off multiple vehicles flying its high-performance banner, including a GV60 EV and the Magma GT Concept hypercar. The trio we're most interested in are all based on the largest Genesis car, the G90. The concepts that Genesis showed early last year included a full-sized coupe and convertible called the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible. Later in the year, it revealed the G90 Wingback wagon, which also had a Magma makeover. At the time, brand Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke was clear that each one had production possibilities. He called them "very executable," saying that they were closely based on the G90, with many common components and even a common wheelbase.Genesis has done a wagon before. The G70 Shooting Brake was aimed squarely at BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz, and was sold in Europe starting in 2021. It's actually still on sale there, offering gas or diesel power. That's not confirmation of what's coming, but there definitely is something coming. So come on, Genesis. Make this Wingback happen.
