Kia and Genesis are recalling nearly 250,000 vehicles over fuel leaks. There have been 387 reports related to the issue, but no fires or accidents. Problem has been traced to a crossover fuel pipe that can become loose. Kia and Genesis are recalling 235,792 vehicles over a potential fuel leak. The two campaigns involve a possible discharge between the fuel pipe and fuel rail. Starting with Kia, the company is recalling 141,032 Carnival minivans from the 2022-2026 model years. The automaker first became aware of the problem in January of 2025 as they received reports of a “fuel smell and leakage from the high-pressure crossover fuel pipe connecting the GDI fuel rails in the 2022-2024MY Carnival.” More: Kia Recalls 250,000 Sedans Because Their Gas Tanks Can Melt This kicked off an investigation, which didn’t turn up anything. The automaker and supplier continued looking into the issue and eventually found a loose nut on two vehicles with fuel leaks. The automaker wasn’t able to identify a root cause, but engines produced after November 19, 2024 have an updated crossover pipe torque specification that should ensure the nuts remain tight. Kia isn’t aware of any accidents or fires related to the issue and it’s believed that only 1% of the recalled vehicles will exhibit the problem. To address it, dealers will inspect, retighten, or replace the fuel pipe as needed. Genesis Suffers Similar Problem Over at the luxury brand, the recall involves the 2021-2025 G80 and GV80, the 2022-2026 GV70, and 2023-2025 G90. A total of 94,760 vehicles are involved as they can experience a leak at the pipe connection between the fuel pipe and fuel rail. The government says the crossover fuel pipe connecting the left and right fuel rails may have been installed with retention fasteners that can loosen over time. This can eventually cause a fuel leak and fire. Two cases of a leak or fuel odor were reported in July of 2024, while another came that October. The latter incident sparked an investigation, but it proved hard to solve as tests showed no loosening under various conditions. However, Genesis decided to conduct a recall and there have been 129 reports related to the issue. Technicians will inspect and retighten the crossover fuel pipe, as necessary. If a fuel leak is found, the crossover pipe will be replaced.
