The announcement marks the beginning of a new collaboration between the two companies, and drivers won't need an iPhone to use the built-in navigation system. Oh, and don't worry, Apple CarPlay will continue to be available despite Apple Maps being the built-in navigation software.Apple has done more than just improve Maps in recent years. In addition to making the app cleaner and easier to use, it now integrates with an EV's data to display remaining range, route drivers to nearby charging stations, and show charger availability in real time. With Apple's new MapKit for Automotive SDK (software development kit), Ford will take that integration a step further by preconditioning the battery when a charging stop is set as the destination. The automaker will also use Maps' road-level data to help its Latitude AI team develop the next generation of its BlueCruise hands-free driving system.According to Apple, MapKit for Automotive SDK allows automakers to embed and customize Apple Maps while delivering a navigation experience that matches the look and feel of their vehicles. While the automaker hasn't confirmed what other models will ride on the platform, it's expected to spawn additional trucks and SUVs. Ford has said the first model will start at around $30,000.Rumors suggest the upcoming pickup could revive the Ranchero name, following Ford's trademark filing in August 2025. We caught a glimpse of a camouflaged prototype during a visit to Ford's Electric Vehicle Development Center in Long Beach, California, where its sharply raked A-pillars stood out as an unusual design choice for a pickup.At launch, the truck is expected to offer a rear-wheel-drive configuration powered by a permanent-magnet motor, while an all-wheel-drive variant will add an induction motor on the front axle. It will reportedly be offered exclusively as a four-door crew cab, with multiple battery pack options designed to give buyers a choice between a lower entry price and greater driving range.
