Ford has recalled 548,463 units of its 2018-2024 Expedition SUVs due to an interior defect that has caused "hand and finger lacerations." The American automaker is aware of one accident and 65 injuries related to the issue.According to a recall report published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Expedition's center console chrome trim may bubble and peel away from the base material, leaving behind sharp edges that can injure occupants.The report adds that the center console chrome trim "may have been manufactured by the supplier with parameters that do not meet Ford specifications." The report stated:"On September 24, 2025, Ford identified a trend in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) referencing the bubbling and peeling of chrome trim located on the center console of 2019-2020 model year (MY) Ford Expedition vehicles. The VOQs described the condition as creating a sharp edge on the chrome trim after peeling. It was only through environmental testing that the chrome plating "exhibited bubbling and peeling." On June 2, 2026, Ford's Field Review Committee approved a field action. Revealing the injuries arising from the issue, the recall report added:"Globally, Ford is aware of one accident, 65 injuries, and no fires related to this concern. Customer reports of hand and finger lacerations associated with this condition include a small number of instances stating that professional medical attention was required."Remedy Program for Affected OwnersRevealing the remedy program for affected Ford Expedition owners, the NHTSA recall report stated:AdvertisementAdvertisement"Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the center console inspected and replaced if chrome peeling or bubbling is present. There will be no charge for this service.""Replacement center consoles will be produced with chrome plating that meets Ford specifications."Dealers were notified on June 10, 2026. Interim owner notification letters, sent to owners before the remedy becomes available, will be mailed between June 29, 2026, and July 2, 2026, while remedy owner notification letters will be mailed between January 29, 2027, and February 2, 2027.
