Following up on their collaboration on a 2021 Bronco concept, Ford and Filson will officially partner on a new trim level of the off-road SUV, set for a June debut. The simply named Ford Bronco Filson will offer interior and exterior styling elements inspired by the outdoor clothing brand's signature designs, and the automaker calls out the two companies' "shared American legacy" of outfitting outdoor enthusiasts, working professionals, and even the US Forest Service with long-lasting, dependable equipment. Premium Materials And Signature Details FordFord hasn't confirmed anything for the premium-badged Bronco, but a shaded teaser image above (that we enhanced to reveal some additional detail) shows a beefy Bronco with a suave Filson spare tire cover. Beyond that, we'd expect some design cues of the 2021 Wildland Fire Rig concept to make an appearance on the production model. For example, waxed canvas aping the clothing company's Tin Cloth jackets appeared on the concept's seat bolsters and center console, with a custom-stitched Filson patch and brass rivets accenting the upholstery. Those elements seem very likely for the production model, as does the concept's Bronco-branded version of the Filson rugged twill duffel bag.2021 Ford Bronco + Filson Wildland Fire Rig Concept Interior Center ConsoleLess likely to see mass production is the Bronco + Filson Wildland Fire Rig's more custom elements, like the deleted rear seat that makes space for a water pump and hose reel for fighting brush fires. Ditto the new bulkhead behind the front row of seats, separating gear and cargo from passengers. That said, it's possible Ford will give the Bronco Filson a robust exoskeleton-style roof rack and special off-road lighting, and we presume the co-branded SUV will be offered with hardcore off-road options like the Sasquatch package, which includes 35-inch tires, unique suspension tuning, shorter axle ratios, and up to 11.6 inches of ground clearance. Is This The New "Eddie Bauer"? Ford has a long history of collaborating with apparel and outdoor companies, including the recently revealed Carhartt package for the F-Series Super Duty. In fact, for much of the 1990s and 2000s, many Ford SUVs offered premium interior materials and unique styling elements that were cobranded by Eddie Bauer, the gear and clothing company that, like Filson, was established in Washington state to serve the great migration of the 1890s. It sounds like Ford Bronco customers have been hankering for a more premium interior experience since the SUV launched six years ago.Our owners have asked us for it. They said, 'Hey, we love the capability of a Bronco, and we love the fact that it’s got that timeless design, but what else from maybe an interior standpoint?' So that’s one of the things we’re excited to debut on June 3 – the more premium positioning.–Dave Rivers, Ford Enthusiast Brand ManagerThat said, we doubt this is the rumored, potentially Lincoln-badged Mercedes-Benz G-Class competitor. As nice as Filson gear is, it can't quite live up to the posh, Lagerfeld-chic interior fitments of the big Benz. Perhaps a premium, Bronco-based SUV would do well to revive Lincoln's old Designer Series lineup, like the Continental Mark V Givenchy or Town Car Cartier.Ford will host a reveal event for the Bronco Filson on June 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern at the company's YouTube channel. Pricing and availability remain in question, but we have to assume it'll arrive in time for the 2027 model year and carry a starting price of $60,000 or more, perhaps slotting between the stylish Heritage Edition and the race-themed Stroppe Edition.Source: Ford
