Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV launched in Malaysia – 1.5T petrol hybrid, 90 km EV range, 1,200 km combined; RM130k
One of two Chery models launched in Malaysia today is the Tiggo 7 PHEV plug-in hybrid, which is launched alongside the Tiggo 8 PHEV, following the opening of the order books for both near the end of last month. The Tiggo 7 PHEV arrives on the Malaysian market priced from RM129,800, locally assembled (CKD) from the outset, from Kulim, Kedah.
The internal combustion engine is a 1.5 litre turbocharged TGDi four-cylinder engine that outputs 143 PS and 215 Nm, pairing with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). The ICE essentially operates as a range extender, and combined, powertrain outputs are 279 PS and 365 Nm, sent to the front wheels.
The electrified segment of the powertrain consists of a 18.3 kWh battery that can be recharged via DC up to 40 kW, getting a 30-80% SoC in 19 minutes, while AC charging at up to 6.6 kW attains the same 30-80% recharge in three hours. Conversely, vehicle-to-load (V2L) is supplied at up to 3.3 kW.





In the Tiggo 7 PHEV, this yields a fully electric range of up to 90 km, and can attain a maximum hybrid range of 1,200 km, this claimed figure being the same for both the Tiggo 7 PHEV and the Tiggo 8 PHEV. Fuel tank capacity for the Tiggo 7 PHEV is 60 litres.
Measuring 4,553 mm long, 1,862 mm wide and 1,696 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm, the Tiggo 7 PHEV has a claimed wading depth of 500 mm, which is matched by the Tiggo 8 PHEV; kerb weight is 1,795 kg. Rolling stock is a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, shod in tyres measuring 255/60R18, and these are supplemented by a tyre repair kit.
Exterior equipment on the Tiggo 7 PHEV includes automatic LED headlamps and DRLs, LED foglamps, active cornering and front sequential indicators, LED tail lamps and a hands-free powered tailgate.




Inside, the Tiggo 7 PHEV gets a 24.6-inch (dual 12.3-inch) screen setup for the digital driver’s instrumentation and infotainment touchscreen, with support for wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio output is by an eight-speaker Sony premium audio system, while an intelligent voice assistant is also included.
For device connectivity, there are USB-C and USB-A ports the front row, while the rear seat occupants get USB-A ports. The front row gets a 50-watt wireless device charger and a 12-volt power outlet, while another 12-volt power outlet is located in the luggage compartment.
For safety and driving assistance systems, the Tiggo 7 PHEV gets lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane change assist, lane keeping assist, emergency lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and braking, front and rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, integrated cruise control, and AEB.


Also on are traffic jam assist, door opening warning, speed limit reminder, intelligent high beam control, driver monitoring, drive-way information, intelligent avoidance system and multi-collision braking.
In Malaysia, the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV is offered in Phantom Grey, Khaki White and Blood Stone Red with a contrasting black roof (the latter is a RM2,000 cost option). Warranty coverage is seven years or up to 150,000 km for the vehicle, with an eight-year, 160,000 km warranty on the drive battery, electric motor and hybrid powertrain control unit. Also offered is a five-year free labour service package for six service intervals.
For added ownership peace of mind, the Tiggo 7 PHEV, like the Tiggo 8 PHEV, is offered with a one-to-one battery exchange policy should the hybrid drive battery’s state of health fall below 70% during the vehicle’s warranty period.
