A car salesman admits the Nissan Leaf is one of the more difficult vehicles to sell in his entire fleet. That’s because even “desperate” people with poor credit don’t seem to want it.
TikTok user Ali (@keys.approvals) is (or was) a salesman at a Nissan dealership in Florida. In a video posted last week—which may have cost Ali his job—he tells viewers why the Nissan electric vehicle is “unsellable.”
“There’s one car that no matter how low the credit is, no matter how desperate someone is for a car, anytime this car is presented as an option, they will always say no,” he says to start the video. “They will never agree to taking this car home. Something about this car is just so ugly to every genre of audience. No matter which person—a girl, a man, an old lady, a young girl—there’s not one genre of audience that is attracted to this car.”
As the video cuts off, Ali reveals a Nissan Leaf parked behind him. “Literally can’t pay someone to drive this,” he wrote in the caption.
Viewers React to the Nissan Leaf Take
In the comments section, viewers weighed in on both Ali’s Nissan Leaf take and his public speaking ability.
“A dealer had Nissan Leafs leasing for $99 with zero down and people would still walk right past them,” wrote one viewer.
“This is the Desani of cars?” joked a second viewer.

Others said the Leaf is one of a few cars that drivers with options tend to avoid. “Nissan Versa, Nissan Leaf, and Mitsubishi Mirage,” said one person.
However, other people said the Leaf hate is way overblown. “I leased a Leaf last year: zero down, 2 years, 10k miles a year for $10 a month,” wrote one driver. “I don’t care how ugly it is; it was a steal.”
“The Nissan Leaf, we had a back order list of people paying premiums to buy it,” another person agreed.
Some viewers couldn’t get passed Ali’s verbiage in the video. “‘Genre of audience?” said one viewer. “Just say demographic, bro.” Another person said, “You talk too much.”
Unfortunately, it appears Ali’s employers didn’t enjoy the video either. He wrote in a comment, “UPDATE: This video got me fired.” It’s unclear if this is a marketing ploy or if Ali actually lost his job.
Aesthetics Are Not the Nissan Leaf’s Only Problem
The 2026 Nissan Leaf starts at $29,990 MSRP. You can also get a 36-month lease for $499 a month after an initial $3,699. It features approximately 303 miles of range per charge and a 75 kWh battery.
It does seem like a turning point for the model. Just a few days ago, the company announced it would stop producing EVs in the U.S. after the expiration of the federal EV tax credit. The same month, the automaker recalled 19,000 Leafs due to an issue with the quick charging port, and a class action lawsuit filed in California alleges that a “significant defect” in the battery poses a fire risk.
