Jump LinksA G50 Chassis Retains Gas EngineAn All-new Electric Option TooOops, that's embarrassing. BMW's North America website accidentally leaked some of the updates that the Bavarian manufacturer is planning to introduce in 2027, and there are a few interesting points to glean from the preview. This accidental future BMW model leak comes at a transformative time in the company's history as it prepares for a 'Neue Klasse' era, which will focus on new design language and electrification, like the one found on the new iX3 SUV.We're taking a holistic look at the upcoming models announced in the preview and will take you through what to expect from BMW's future lineup. The Neue Klasse transition may have proved controversial, but there's still hope for fans of an ICE engine. Check out what's next for this legendary marque. This article combines known information with informed speculation and industry rumors to bring our readers a comprehensive overview of future BMW cars on a global scale. Information reflected here is not exclusive to the US market only. The BMW M2 Gets xDrive For 2027 BMW M2 XDrive LeakThe first of the BMW models leaked we're going to look at is the refreshed M2 Coupe, which will have the capacity for xDrive. This is BMW's AWD system, and it's available in both the M3 and M4, so it's only natural that it's trickling down to the baby Beemer too. This M2 has been on sale since 2023, meaning it's due for a slight refresh, especially as it is expected to stay on sale until 2029.Future BMW car models are still expected to retain manual transmissions, but again, it's unclear if that will come to the xDrive M2. There is, however, also talk of a torque and power bump, which will not only combat this increased weight but also make the xDrive automatic-only. Automatic transmissions are much better at dealing with extra torque. Typically, xDrive is said to add around 100 pounds to the total weight of the car, which may put the M2 at around 4,000 lbs.As in other BMW models, the driver will likely be able to switch between real AWD or a completely rear-biased setup at the press of a button. As it's a 2027 model year car, the full reveal will likely take place in the summer of 2026. Out of all the future BMW models, this is the one that will be most appealing to current enthusiasts, as it does not feature the Neue Klasse looks (yet). The Next 3 Series Looks Radically Different A G50 Chassis Retains Gas Engine BMW If you're not ready to go fully electric - fear not; the next generation of BMW's legendary compact executive sedan will have the option of dinosaur juice or electrons. For the nerds, the next generation of 3 Series will be codenamed the G50 to continue after the current G20. With the change in codename comes a change in model name, too.The current M340i xDrive will be dropped for the M350i xDrive, and the company is expected to keep the B58 engine in the front. It will probably feature light modifications to make it comply with current regulations, most likely in the exhaust system. Mild-hybrid technology will probably also be present to help lower emissions and increase fuel mileage. The 2027 BMW i3 Neue Klasse 2027 BMW i3 Neue Klasse - Brett T Evans (6)For the first time in its history, the 3 Series will also be available as an electric sedan. BMW's future electric cars go hand in hand with the new design language, so the company will have to convince fans both of the new aesthetic and a silent powertrain replacing the legendary straight-six. From a looks perspective, the 2027 i3 does away with the toothy kidney grille and instead takes its cues from the new iX3 — angular headlights, sharp DRLs, a chiseled hood, and sleeker grille.BMW The i3 sits on a very similar platform to the G50, codenamed the NA0. The latest leak spoiled the fact that there'll be two trim levels to pick from, a 40 xDrive and a 50 xDrive. For now, only information on the 50 xDrive is available as the new electric sedan was revealed recently, and CarBuzz was present at the event. Not only is the new i3 potent and sleek in looks, but it offers exceptionally fast charging rates."The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment. With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use."- Franciscus van Meel, Managing Director of BMW MWhile it wasn't mentioned in the leak, we also know that an electric M3 is coming. This car will feature a quad-motor setup focused around a new 'Heart of Joy' system that controls all the vehicle's functions on one centralized platform. The electric sedan market is slowly heating up, with cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, so BMW has a lot to do to convince consumers that it's still at the top of the market. BMW X4 To Come Back As iX4 SHProshots / CarBuzz / ValnetWe all know that there's an iX3 coming soon as part of the Neue Klasse series, and from our most recent drive review, we feel that is quite an enjoyable experience. BMW has also leaked that there's a slightly sportier-looking version coming in the form of the iX4 with its recent accidental reveal that'll sit on the same impressive platform. The iX3 gets an impressive 400 miles of range, so you can expect this car to have similar figures but less headroom and cargo space due to the lower roofline."The iX3 [which sits on the same platform as the iX4] is a game-changer, you just need to drive it to believe. There are still cheaper EVs for budget-conscious buyers and more luxurious ones that deliver a superior ride, but if you are looking for the best all-around option with class-leading specs, the iX3 is it."- Jared Rosenholtz, Editor-At-Large, CarBuzzJust like the i3 sedan, the iX4 is said to come with both xDrive 40 and xDrive 50 trims. You can expect it to look broadly similar to the Neue Klasse iX3 until the rear, which will slope down smoothly. We drove the 50 xDrive version of the iX3, and that came with 463 hp and 476 lb-ft, so expect that to be the top power figure until you start to tick the 'M' box. Upcoming BMW electric cars promise to be more engaging, regardless of trim. The X5 May Have Five Powertrain Options CarBuzz/Valnet Moving up through the BMW future vehicles, the X5 will have a similar setup to the next-generation 3-Series, where it will come with both a gas and electric version. Electric SUVs are currently rising in popularity quickly thanks to the uptick in electric vehicle technology and the extra space provided by a high-riding stance. That's not only for occupants but also the batteries hidden underneath. The 'BMW upcoming cars' website leak revealed that the base version will stay as the 40 sDrive, meaning only rear-wheel drive. We also know there will be a 60 xDrive version of the upcoming electric iX5 debuting later this year. Interestingly, according to a report by BMWBlog, the next generation of the SUV, codenamed G65, will have five powertrains to offer. Alongside the usual gas, diesel (in some markets), PHEV, and electric, rumors point to a hydrogen fuel cell being available in select markets. This is said to have been developed in partnership with Toyota. Refresh Coming For 2027 BMW 7 Series BMWThe final car that we know has been confirmed is the refreshed 7 Series limousine. The leak revealed the 740i xDrive trim, and even though we haven't seen a 760i variant yet, the V8 will probably stick around for more time in that version. All upcoming BMW models were shown without a blur on them, but this is the only car that we don't know the looks of, pointing to a mid-cycle facelift for the 2027MY car. While some have found the split headlight design polarizing, it's going to stay around for a little while longer with BMW's teasers starting already. With Mercedes-Benz recently revealing the new 2027 S-Class, the Bavarians knew they couldn't stay out the game for too long. Now with BMW taking over Alpina, we're one step closer to seeing the newest BMW luxury model with a powerful engine and unique interior designs.Sources: BMWBlog, Motor1
