They have now done so, and the first vehicle to get it will be the flagship 2027 Q9 three-row SUV.Here's how the Digital Matrix headlight works. Much like a modern display screen, Audi's new headlights are made up of thousands and thousands of individual points of light. To be precise, the Q9's headlights have 25,600 micro-LEDs per headlight, each of them individually controlled. They're divided into half-inch-wide modules, with each tiny LED measuring just micrometers across.Audi (Audi)Using front-facing cameras, the headlight system can detect approaching vehicles, something that already exists on cars equipped with automatically dipping high-beams. What makes Digital Matrix headlights different is their ability to individually dim LEDs in a rolling sheet as the oncoming car changes angle in passing.It's an adaptive technology that allows the Q9's high-beams to light up the night while not blinding oncoming cars.
