Ram 3500 bones give this pricey camper proper V8-powered off-road credentials. Its fold-out rear deck expands the living space with a balcony for those great views. The $299,898 GVX Wild sleeps four but only two people can legally travel inside. You could buy a nice house in some places for $300,000. Or you could buy a Hemi-powered Ram-based camper and go looking for places without houses. Storyteller Overland’s new GXV Wild costs $299,898 and brings serious off-road hardware, comfortable living quarters and its own folding balcony. Underneath is a Ram 3500 single cab in posh Big Horn Level 2 trim and powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 producing 375 hp (380 PS) and 429 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque. Storyteller adds an AEV suspension setup with a 3-inch (76 mm) lift, forged 20-inch wheels and chunky 275/80 R20 tires. Storyteller’s design engineer Hunter Endicott says its shorter wheelbase made the Wild easier to thread through tight turns and vegetation off-road. There’s a 14,000 lbs (6,350 kg) GVWR, 1,000 lbs (453 kg) payload and 11,000 lbs (4,990 kg) towing capacity, which is probably going to fulfill most campers’ needs. Inside you’ll find a queen loft bed plus a convertible rear dinette, allowing four adults to sleep aboard. The fly in the ointment here is that that the single-cab truck itself only carries two while driving. One solution is to upgrade to the hardcore double-cab GXV Hilt, but that’s going to set you back over $525,000. FlipOut Rear Deck There’s also a wet bath inside the GXV Wild, a 4.1-cu-ft (116 liters) Vitrifrigo fridge and freezer, a portable induction cooktop, and a microwave that doubles as a convection oven and air fryer. Air conditioning and hydronic heating should make disappearing into less hospitable places considerably more civilized. But the party piece is Storyteller’s FlipOut Deck, which opens the camper’s rear into an elevated outdoor platform. Even Endicott admits he initially underestimated that detail before discovering how great it was to open the rear while eating breakfast or maybe even just answering emails if you’re working on the road.
