The current generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser available in North America arrived for the 2024 model year. It was a big shift in design and philosophy over the previous model available here, moving away from its luxury-imbued status to focus on practicality, durability and dependability.Historically, Toyota has been a conservative automaker when it comes to updates. The new Land Cruiser is still shiny, so it's no surprise that for the 2027 model year, updates are small. But they do exist in the form of some extra options and colors. Here's what you need to know. Toyota Inked Toyota The first notable option is a new paint color for the Land Cruiser, and it has a great name: Inked. It is a no-cost black paint option, alongside Heritage Blue, Meteor Shower, Wind Chill Pearl, Ice Cap, Underground, and Trail Dust. And speaking of trail dust, a new off-road specific option is for a High Mounted Air Intake costing $980.00. Typically, Toyota's extended air intakes are to avoid dust and not water, so they can't be relied upon for water crossing. The other new option Toyota is being vocal about is for heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats. The Toyota Land Cruiser starts at $57,880 with the Land Cruiser 1958 trim, while the straightforward Land Cruiser starts at $63,995. Both are powered by Toyota's i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain – a hybrid system based around a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that creates a total of 326 horsepower with 465 pound-feet of torque. Both versions use a full-time four-wheel drive system, with the electric motor positioned in the bell housing between the engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission. That Off-Road Capability Toyota There was doubt when it was first revealed that the new Land Cruiser would be smaller, not powered by a V8, and on the same platform as the new 4Runner, Tacoma, and the Lexus LX. It is a different vehicle, and the smaller Land Cruiser has been known as the Land Cruiser Prado in other markets for decades. However, it's not a diluted Land Cruiser in terms of off-road capability. Both the US models come with two-speed transfer case and standard center and rear locking differentials. However, the front Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism is an option to increase the SUV's suspension articulation. The Land Cruiser 1958 version is easily spotted by its retro-inspired round LED headlamps and the “TOYOTA” heritage grille. It also comes with a 2400W AC inverter and a trailer brake controller, a solid set of safety and driver-aid features, including blind-spot monitoring. It has a smaller infotainment screen, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.Toyota The full Land Cruiser adds more premium interior materials and features, including a larger infotainment screen, a wireless smartphone charger, a 10-speaker audio system, then there are color-selectable LED fog lights, Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor. None of which are truly essential for off-roading. The Premium Package is purely that, adding features like leather-trimmed heated and cooled front seats, a digital rearview mirror, a Head-up Display, illuminated entry and a power moonroof, and a JBL sound system. The 2027 Land Cruiser reaches US dealerships later this Spring.
