That breadth of talent helped it win MotorTrend's 2022 Truck of the Year award, and it further proved itself by completing the first electric crossing of the 5,000-plus-mile Trans-America Trail.AdvertisementAdvertisementFor 2025, Rivian introduced an updated R1T with updates to its powertrains and tech, along with a built-in NACS port. Rivian's groundbreaking vehicle might be derided as a lifestyle truck, but the R1T still stands out for its mix of capability, usefulness, and driving enjoyment.AdvertisementAdvertisementRivian helps offset the R1T's small bed with a clever Gear Tunnel running across the body, and a genuinely useful frunk. Meanwhile, the cabin's smart layout and advanced driver-assistance tech make the R1T easy to live with day to day.Out on the road or away from it, this truck continues to shine. It's mega quick, surprisingly athletic, and features an excellent one-pedal-driving system. The air suspension can adapt to prioritize comfort or sharpen the handling, or lift the truck for added ground clearance when the terrain gets rough. In Quad Motor form, the R1T feels especially distinctive, with supercar-like acceleration and dynamics. Driving range is respectable, though quicker charging would improve the R1T's road-trip appeal. At least it can plug in at Tesla stations now.Not everything is perfect. The brake pedal feels too soft, and routing basic functions like air vent adjustment through the touchscreen is more annoying than innovative. Even so, the R1T remains deeply impressive for how well it combines performance, utility, and refinement.Top-Ranked Competitors:GMC Hummer EVChevrolet Silverado EVTesla CybertruckScout TerraMotorTrend TestedAll-electric powertrain configurations comprising two, three, or four motors are available in the R1T:AdvertisementAdvertisementR1T Dual Motor StandardDrivetrain: Dual-motor AWD (one front, one rear)Horsepower/Torque: 533 hp/610 lb-ftAcceleration (0–60 mph): 4.4 seconds (est)R1T Dual Motor PerformanceDrivetrain: Dual-motor AWD (one front, one rear)Horsepower/Torque: 665 hp/829 lb-ftAcceleration (0–60 mph): 3.4 secondsR1T Tri MotorDrivetrain: Three-motor AWD (one front, two rear)Horsepower/Torque: 850 hp/1,103 lb-ftAcceleration (0–60 mph): 2.8 secondsR1T Quad MotorDrivetrain: Four-motor AWD (one per wheel)Horsepower/Torque: 1,025 hp/1,198 lb-ftAcceleration (0–60 mph): 2.5 secondsEV Range and ChargingThe R1T gained a NACS charging port in its 2025 update, allowing direct access to Tesla Supercharger stations. It has noticeably more power than the Dual Standard. The Tri-Motor, though tempting, doesn't feel distinct enough from behind the wheel to fully justify the extra cost.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Quad-Motor is a different story, delivering a more singular driving experience and looking like a strong value given the incredible performance. Even so, most shoppers will likely find the R1T Dual Motor Performance more than capable enough at its roughly $87,000 starting price.Where Is the R1T Made?Every R1T truck and R1S SUV are produced in Rivian's factory in Normal, Illinois.
