Chevy Reveals the Next Silverado Off-RoadersChevrolet has unveiled the 2027 Silverado 1500 lineup, and with the new generation come reworked versions of the Trail Boss and the top-tier ZR2. Both off-road trims share the same overhaul as the rest of the lineup, meaning new V-8 engines, added tech, and refreshed styling, while picking up more capability than before. Pricing has not been announced yet, but Chevy says it will come before the trucks go on sale by the end of this year.Trail Boss and the New Z71 StandardThe Trail Boss returns riding on 34-inch mud-terrain tires with a two-inch suspension lift and a special off-road hood. Inside, it gets fabric seat inserts, red stitching, and seatbelts with Torch Red edges that Chevy points to as an obvious cue that this is an off-road model. For buyers watching their budget, the Custom Trail Boss offers similar hardware with fewer features at a lower price. Notably, every Silverado 4x4 now comes with the Z71 package, which brings upgraded suspension, skid plates, and hill-descent control.ZR2 and the Bison EditionThe ZR2 stays at the top of the Silverado off-road lineup. Chevy dropped the last generation's 33-inch tires in favor of a new set of 35-inchers, and the truck keeps a two-inch factory lift along with an off-road hood featuring a sizable power dome. Standard equipment includes front and rear electronic locking differentials, and the Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers from the previous generation return. The cabin marks GM's first use of forged carbon fiber trim. For buyers who want more, the available Bison Edition adds more aggressive bumpers, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and skid plates protecting the transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank.Powertrains and What Comes NextThe Trail Boss models and the ZR2 follow the rest of the lineup on engines. The Duramax 3.0-liter diesel returns, as does the improved TurboMax 2.7-liter four-cylinder, and Chevy is adding new 5.7- and 6.6-liter V-8 engines. Full specs on the new small-blocks have not been released beyond Chevy's claim that this generation will be its most powerful ever. Pricing and availability arrive later this year.AdvertisementAdvertisementSources:2027 Chevy Silverado ZR2, Trail Boss Revealed with Off-Road Chops - Car and Driver
