That's mainly because the four-cylinder models have been jettisoned from the lineup, giving customers standard V6 power from the get-go.As a recap, prices for the 2027 Q7 start at $70,900 for the base Premium, while the Premium Plus goes for $75,300. Meanwhile, the top-spec Prestige now carries a base price of $84,900. While it's a big jump versus the four-cylinder Premium and Premium Plus base prices, the gap is much closer compared against the V6-powered versions. Those models go for $68,100 and $73,400 for the Premium 55 TFSI Quattro and Premium Plus 55 TFSI Quattro, respectively.AudiWhy Was the Four-Cylinder Dropped?Audi is currently revamping and simplifying its model range in a bid to add better value for its vehicles. Prime examples of that are the A5 and A6, with the A5 reduced to a single, well-equipped trim but available with options packages. As for the A6, more standard equipment was added with pricing relatively intact.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe company did the same for the Q7, and the additional standard tech and three-row seating should lure in more customers. But the main reason why the four-cylinder was dropped was simple: More customers simply went straight for the V6-powered 55 TFSI models. By Audi's reckoning, about 70 percent of buyers opted for the turbo V6, giving the automaker more reason to stick to just one powertrain option. Economies of scale also work in the company's favor in this case, too.AudiUndercutting Mercedes and BMWThe sticker shock is understandable, but if you compare it to similarly specified models from Mercedes-Benz and BMW, you might actually be surprised to know the Audi manages to undercut the Mercedes and stay close to the BMW's pricing. The GLC 450 4Matic starts at $72,250, $1,350 more than the Q7. As for the X5 xDrive40i, it carries a base price of $70,600, which is $300 less than the Audi.Mind you, we're comparing 2026 prices of the Q7's main rivals, and those are bound to go up for the 2027 model year. The heavily facelifted GLE 450 4Matic could push past $73,000, while the redesigned X5 40 xDrive fetches $73,550. It's unknown if the updated GLE will get three-row seating standard, but as it stands, it's a $2,100 option, while the all-new X5 won't get one at all. All things considered, the Q7 might just be the value choice of the German trio.AudiThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Jul 21, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
