The 2026 Peugeot 408 facelift has made its debut, updating the third-generation model that made its debut in mid-2022 and which has taken the form of a fastback crossover, succeeding past generations of sedans. The update brings visual changes starting with the front fascia that now wears redesigned headlights, DRLs and grille, with a lighting signature of the three-claw design now applied to the front in addition to those at the rear. These are joined by an LED strip that runs the width of the front of the vehicle. Its side profile is carried over from the pre-facelift, updated with new wheel designs ranging from 17 to 20 inches in diameter, depending on variant. At the rear, the Peugeot script is now illuminated. Additionally, the facelifted 408 gets a new colour for its selection, which is the Flare Green shown in these images. The facelift of the battery-electric Peugeot e-408 has made its debut at the same time as the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Like the pre-facelift, the updated e-408 packs a front-mounted motor, now producing 213 PS and 343 Nm. This draws from a nickel manganese cobalt battery of the same 58.2 kWh usable capacity as before, yielding a WLTP-rated range of 456 km. Charging the e-408 can be done at up to 120 kW DC, which will bring a 20-80% recharge in around 30 minutes, unchanged from the pre-facelift. The battery-electric e-408 is joined by PHEV and hybrid variants. The plug-in hybrid, named the 408 Plug-in Hybrid 240 e-DCS7, combines a 180 PS petrol engine and a 125 PS electric motor with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, producing a combined output of 240 PS. This succeeds the pre-facelift PHEV version of the 408, which used an eight-speed automatic transmission instead. Its 14.6 kWh lithium-ion battery can be recharged at up to 7.4 kW via wallbox, which brings a full charge in two hours and five minutes, enabling the PHEV variant to attain a battery-only range of up to 85 km. Completing the debut range of powertrains for the 408 facelift is the 408 Hybrid 145 e-DCS6, which packs a 145 PS 1.2 litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with an electric motor integrated into its six-speed automatic transmission (the pre-facelift hybrids used an eight-speed automatic). This attains a claimed fuel consumption rate of 5.0 litres per 100 km, and it can operate in EV mode for up to 50% of the driving time urban conditions,” says Peugeot. The interior of the facelifted Peugeot 408 range is largely carried over from the pre-facelift, with the addition of new upholstery for the seats and trim sections. Displays in the 408 facelift are comprised of a 10-inch driver’s instrument cluster (with new graphics) and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trim variants of the 408 get the i-Connect Advanced setup with TomTom Connected Navigation, ChatGPT AI integration, vehicle geolocation, and other features. All variants of the Peugeot 408 facelift are produced in France; the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants are made in Mulhouse, while the battery-electric e-408 is made in Trémery at a Stellantis-Nidec joint venture facility.
