The Leapmotor C10, which was launched here in October 2024, is set for another update in Malaysia very soon, and this one will bring “more power” and “more range,” according to a teaser post put out by Leapmotor Malaysia on its social channels. The all-electric SUV was previously updated last year, but the revisions were minor, consisting of a switch from a 6.6 kW onboard AC charger to a 11 kW unit and some new kit, including a direct tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a motorised tyre inflator kit and a tonneau cover for the rear luggage compartment. This time around, there will be a more significant mechanical changes, as suggested by the mentions above. Essentially, the Malaysian refresh will likely introduce the revisions from the domestic update for the SUV introduced in China last year. Leading the changes is a neat bump in power output – the China update brought about 299 PS (295 hp, or 220 kW), a 68 PS (67 hp, or 50 kW) increase from the 231 PS (228 hp, or 170 kW) on the previous C10 sold there. It remains to be seen if the 2026 version heading our way will follow suit exactly, as our C10 has a slightly lower output of 218 PS (215 hp, or 160 kW) from the earlier Chinese version to begin with. If it does, you can expect the 0-100 km/h sprint time for the vehicle to drop to 5.9 seconds from the 7.5 seconds on the current Malaysian car. The other promise of more range will come from a larger capacity battery. The unit is still a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) unit, but it’s now a 74.9 kWh pack compared to the existing 69.9 kWh unit. As a result, operating range on a single charge is up, with the new car having a quoted CLTC range of 605 km, or around 495 km WLTP, which is around 70 km more than the present C10 (424 km, WLTP). It was also mentioned last year that the Chinese C10 was making the switch from a 400V architecture to an 800V one, so barring any surprises, that should also be heading our way. Otherwise, expect to see the same exterior and interior for the car, with a new purple exterior colour, electrically-powered door handles and a 50 watt wireless charging pad being the only minor cosmetic and kit revisions. No indication of price, but the current C10 had its price lowered to RM125,000 from RM159,000 in June last year. The other question is if it the 2026 update will arrive as a locally-assembled vehicle – the company had previously indicated that the C10 would be going the CKD route, with assembly at Stellantis’ existing plant in Gurun, Kedah having slated to begin at the end of last year, so it’s only logical that the new car would be CKD.
