Image Credit: Auto Auction Rebuilds/YouTubeYouTuber Auto Auction Rebuilds recently came across a car graveyard in Oklahoma, except this is slightly different from your typical automotive resting place. Each of the cars in the yard was wrapped in red plastic bags, and you could actually land yourself in big trouble if you removed them. These cars are located at an Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA) yard, and eventually, some of these cars will go up for sale. However, they are held here and tightly wrapped in red as they are the subject of various investigations, accident reconstructions, and more. Not every car in the yard is wrapped in red. Many of them are uncovered, and these ones are all okay to head to auction. But until investigations are completed, the cars in red have to stay wrapped in giant plastic bags, creating a very strange sight.AdvertisementAdvertisementShould you attempt to remove one of the covers, which we don't recommend that you do, then you may find yourself receiving more than a slap on the wrist. But the video explains exactly why these cars are here and not ready for an auction just yet.Why Are These Cars Covered in a Red Plastic Bag?The short answer here is that these cars are part of various investigations. The longer answer is that every one of these cars has some sort of investigation hanging over its head. Some of the vehicles, which include quite a few pickup trucks, are being investigated due to insurance reasons, ie insurance fraud. Some of them have also been involved in accidents. The cars get brought to the auction yard, and they sit here wrapped in these bags until insurance companies can take a closer look at the damage. Access to the black boxes is sometimes needed as well, so speed data and other information can be analyzed to see who was at fault in a particular accident. So, these cars are in many ways actual evidence for accidents and various other incidents. Not a single person, bar the authorities and insurance companies, can come and access the cars. If you try to look at them, you are basically tampering with evidence, and the police might like a word with you. If the bags were tampered with, tears and rips would let those in charge know that someone had tried to mess with the cars. What Happens to the Cars After the Investigation?Image Credit: Auto Auction Rebuilds/YouTubeUntil the red plastic bags are removed, nobody can get their hands on these cars. However, once the investigations are complete, the red bags can be removed, and the cars can be put up for sale. Some may only be good enough to be spare parts; however, some might actually be in good enough condition to be repaired and put back on the road. Great deals can often be had here, as a lot of these cars can sell for low prices.AdvertisementAdvertisementThere is another interesting reason, however, as to why these cars might have a bag on them. A YouTube commenter explained why that is. "I've transported a few red bag IAA cars; sometimes they're bagged because the biohazard is beyond just slapping a sticker on the window," they said. That isn't the case with these cars, but, interestingly, sometimes they may be declared a biohazard. If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
