Toyota unveiled the new Gazoo Racing GR GT in Tokyo last December and the world seemed to like it. The sports car coupe was offered as both a road and a race car, the GT and GT3. Both shared a front-mounted 641-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo hybrid V8, a rear eight-speed transaxle with a single e-motor in it, and what was promised to be a low center of gravity. With a weight of 1,750 kgs, or 3,850 pounds, 0-62 mph was offered in less than four seconds and top speed was 199+ mph. Let’s just say 200. The Toyota GR GT was Gazoo Racing’s new flagship developed as a “road-legal race car that further advances TGR’s philosophy of making ever-better motorsport-bred cars,” while the GR GT3 was the FIA GT3–spec race car based on the GR GT road car but, as Toyota says, "engineered for all customers who want to win races."But both those cars were shown in dark colors, dark grey or almost charcoal. Last week, at the Japanese Car Cruise-In at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, Toyota revealed the GR GT in red. And the people rejoiced.
