Ram's third quarter of 2026 reads like a plot twist. While the Ford F-Series slid 1.9 percent, the GMC Sierra dropped 2.5 percent, and the Tundra eased a smaller 0.7 percent, Ram's overall sales climbed 33.7 percent. Take the heavy-duty models out of that equation, and the Ram 1500 alone jumped nearly 73 percent year over year. The cause looks fairly obvious. Under new leadership, Ram brought back the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which is a big part of the draw. But Ram didn't stop there.Ram Gave Buyers Something Ford And Chevy Couldn't MatchThe 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is back after it was dropped for 2025 in favor of the twin-turbo Hurricane six. The Hurricane is quicker and more modern on paper, but Ram appears to have underestimated just how much truck buyers value the sound, feel, and familiarity of eight cylinders. And it's not alone. Ford is adding V8 options to the F-150, while GM is investing $1 billion in a new generation of V8 engines.StellantisBut there's also something to be said about the pulling power of a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and the market has spoken. Ram originally planned to end the offer in January, but extended it through the 2026 model year after reported overwhelming customer and dealer feedback. Ford and Chevrolet offer 5-years/60,000-miles of powertrain coverage, giving Ram a clear selling point for buyers, especially those financing their trucks over longer periods of time.Heavy-Duty Trucks Took A HitHeavy-duty sales fell across the board, with the Silverado HD down around 10 percent and the Ram and Sierra HD also sliding. Ford's Super Duty still leads, though, with an estimated 79,000 units, ahead of GM's two heavy-duty trucks at roughly 72,000 combined. Ford lumps F-Series sales together, though. That's what makes Ram's surge particularly interesting. Fuel prices are hardly encouraging Americans to buy thirsty trucks, yet the Ram 1500 is doing its best sales impression in years.StellantisEfficiency won elsewhere. Midsize sales rose 4.6 percent, the Nissan Frontier surged 37 percent to about 23,000, and the Ford Maverick moved roughly 41,970 units, up 20 percent, which beats GM's entire midsize lineup. The Tacoma still leads at 71,000 despite a slight dip. Americans aren't abandoning trucks, just choosing them more carefully, and Ram has handed them two good reasons.
