The comedian and former chat show host has a huge number of cars in his collection, showcased on Jay Leno's Garage YouTube channel. Out of all of them, one of Leno's most prized in his collection is his McLaren F1 supercar.Leno was recently talking about his cars on the Road to Success Podcast, including how his love of cars started from a young age. Naturally, the conversation turned to specific cars in the collection, and one of those is his 1994 F1.Leno bought the McLaren a while back and, at the time, paid $800,000 for the supercar. Today, that seems like a bargain, as the McLaren F1 is now worth well over $20 million in some instances. It reflects how coveted these cars have become and how highly they are regarded.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile filming for his channel, Leno revealed that he actually had received an offer for the F1 a while ago, one that reflected its current value on the market. However, he declined the offer, and it was on the podcast that he explained why he wanted to keep the supercar. What Did Leno Say About His McLaren F1?As one of the most coveted supercars of all time, it's easy to see why Leno wanted one so badly. Paying $800,000 for it was a lot at the time, but the value has gone up and up over the years. Remarkably, as he revealed on his own YouTube channel, someone actually made him a crazy offer to try and buy the car.Someone really did offer him $20 million for his F1. However, Leno had no desire to accept it and quickly turned the offer down. "I bought it because it was a great engineering piece. I didn't buy it as an investment," he said. "When you buy things as investments, I think you usually get burned. If you buy things because you love them, then if they go down in value, you still love them."To buy a car like this and just look at it… It's like buying a great painting, putting a cloth over it, and hoping the guy next door will buy it for more money. It doesn't make any sense," Leno added. That showed the passion that he had for the supercar. No amount of money was going to cause him to part with it. As Leno said, cars like this are masterful works of engineering, and not just dollar bills on wheels.Leno Still Adores His McLaren F1Image Credit: Jay Leno's Garage/YouTubeJay Leno has had to be more careful in how he drives the car in recent times, due to how valuable they have become. "This is probably the greatest car of the 20th century. I used to drive it all the time. I'd go to the supermarket in it, go to the dry cleaners. It's got two huge luggage compartments on the side that actually hold quite a bit of stuff," he said.AdvertisementAdvertisement"I take it up to [Angeles Crest Highway] almost every weekend. [But] if some guy in an SUV hits you because he's texting, you're looking at a three-year wait for a new carbon fiber door from England," he added. So while he does still drive the F1 and gets to experience its BMW V12 still, it's fair to say he is a little bit more circumspect as to how he goes about using it.If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
