'We Were Both Devastated:' Man Surprises His Wife with New Car. Her Reaction Is Priceless

In a world that can feel full of endless bad news, petty one-upmanship, and happy moments gone wrong, sometimes a big romantic gesture feels like a win for everyone (even those of us just watching). 

In a recent TikTok, a Marine drives home with a sparkle in his eye and grin that says “I’m about to win Husband of the Year.”

“I am on my way home in our new vehicle,” says @cresillyass in a video that’s been viewed nearly 11,000 times. “And my wife has no idea about it.”

Drama at the Dealership

Earlier that day the couple had gone to the dealership. “Long story short,” he explains, “things didn’t work out. We were both devastated." The 2020 Ford Expedition XLT they wanted had to stay behind. 

So in an attempt to save the day, he went back to the dealership to see what could be figured out. His plan was to talk about their options that evening. Except he didn’t wait.

“Our option,” he says “is the car she fell in love with.”

As he pulls into his driveway, he imagines her response. “I have to record her reaction. I know she’s gonna be [expletive] that I’m surprising her with this,” he says. 

“But, it’s gonna be funny,” he adds in a sing-song voice.

How Did She React to the Surprise?

His plan is to walk in and hand her the keys to the Expedition. As he moves through the house, tension builds. He finds her, in bed and scrolling. Clearly having a rough day.

“Hello,” he says as he walks in and hands her the keys.

“What’s this?” she asks.

“Keys to the new car,” he whispers. 

She  lights up, eyes full of happy tears. Then throws herself into his arms.

“I love you,” he murmurs into her ear, his eyes shining too.

When asked what he did to bring the car home, @cresillyass told Motor1, “I went back and haggled a bit and switched things up and the lady that works all the financing made it happen.”

Big Gifts = Big Responsibilities 

Gift giving has unspoken rules. Psychology Today notes several important things to consider when giving a gift: including timing, surprise, and something the giver can share in. This Expedition surely fits the bill.

Also worth noting is that a gift as big as a vehicle might require a little legwork on the part of the receiver. The most important of these include owner verification, title transfer, and relevant taxes. Of course his wife probably won’t need to do this, as the dealership will have helped with the paperwork side of things.

Love for the Win

The feel-good moment struck a chord online. The folks in the comments celebrated too. They’re divided into two celebratory camps: the “congratulations” camp and the “show us the whip” crew. 

“You have won, sir!!! Great job,” said @themoes03.

The creator replied, “Just giving this woman what she deserves!” With a blended family that includes five children, the car is as needed as it is wanted.

“Dafuq kind of car is it?!?” (as @Knight says). 

In a subsequent TikTok, @cresillyass gives a tour of the 2020 silver and black Ford Expedition XLT with a custom vanity plate that reads “dependa” (military slang for a military spouse).

The vehicle has leather interior and other upscale features. But to the young family, the best part may be the amount of space.

In the post @cresillyass pans to the rear and says, “You can fit all the damn kids in the back.”
