Chevrolet just announced that the current C8 Corvette lineup will receive no additional models, with the last model added being the Grand Sport. In the same breath, Chevy said that the CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo hint at what next-generation Corvettes will look like. And we've had the pleasure of seeing both in the flesh at the 2026 New York Auto Show – and they might be the wildest models on display.A Fully-Electric Corvette Hypercar The silver Corvette CX Concept looks as if a current C8 Stingray got a crazy sci-fi obsession. Although it has spaceship-like proportions, it doesn't stray too far from tradtional Corvette design language. On the outside, it sports an angry, sleek hypercar-esque design, and a similar theme continues on the inside. You have a fighter jet-inspired canopy, which lifts open as you approach. The cockpit embraces that fighter jet feel even more with an F1-like steering wheel design, deep seats, harnesses, and the majority of your tradtional HUD information being displayed on the windscreen. Underneath, things get even more extreme, but controversial too. The CX doesn't have a gas-powered engine; instead, it runs a quad-motor electric setup producing over 2,000 hp, paired with all-wheel drive. Then there's a headline feature: the Vacuum Fan System that sucks the car toward the ground to generate downforce, working alongside adaptive aero elements underneath the car to keep you glued to the ground. An Even Wilder CX.R Track Weapon If you thought the CX was ambitious, hold onto your horses. The CX.R Vision Gran Turismo ditches the all-electric powertrain for a hybrid system that combines a tiny 2.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that screams to 15,000 rpm with three electric motor to produce a total system output of 2,000 hp that's mated to an 8-speed DCT. Finished in a homage yellow racing livery, the CX.R benefits from even more aero than the normal CX concept – it has the rear wing the size of a commercial plane's wing. And if you were wondering, it's named the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo because you can drive one of these virtually in Gran Turismo 7.Paving The Path For Future 'Vettes While GM has said neither car is heading for production, they're giving us a glimpse of what the next-generation Corvette models will look like. We've already seen independent designers take inspiration from the two concept models, imagining extreme evolutions like the so-called C8-X concept, but seeing the CX and CX.R with our own eyes – it's surreal. At the moment, the most powerful Corvette is the 1,000-hp+ ZR1, and in its all-wheel-drive variant, it is the quickest car in the world with a 1.68-second 0 to 60 mph time and an 8.675-second quarter-mile time. Yet, the CX twins suggest there is still much room for improvement.
