It really sticks the landing, offering an affordable EV to people who don't need more than just a car to get around in. Relatively basic though the Bolt may be, the EV's new interior, tech, and updated charging make it a truly enticing option considering the next cheapest EV on sale is Slate's basic $25,000 truck. Coming in just under $30k, there's a lot to like about the Bolt, but these features stood out to me the most after my week with the car.You Can't Beat Cheap2027 Chevrolet Bolt RSChase BierenkovenEven the Bolt's top-tier RS trim comes in under $35k. The starting price? $28,995. This is by far the Bolt's best selling point and its biggest attribute. At this end of the market, you can't beat cheap, and the Bolt is among the cheapest. While the Slate truck is cheaper, the Bolt packs a lot of features Slate owners will have to add later, like screens, powered windows, and more.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe next priciest EV in the American market is the Nissan Leaf, and though it's a worthy step up, it still isn't as cheap as the Bolt, starting at $29,990. It feels like my old VW GTI, which was plenty quick enough. Chevy says the Bolt will get to 60 in about 7 seconds, which is quick enough. While it's a bummer the EV doesn't have all-wheel drive, its dimensions do make it a great city car. The Bolt is easy to park, and a few handy cameras only add to that. The new braking system feels better than the old Bolt, too, and the driver aids are top-notch.The Bolt Feels Small Without CompromiseChase BierenkovenView the 3 images of this gallery on the original articleDespite its small size, the updated Chevrolet Bolt feels big on the inside. This feeling of airiness is carried over to the front of the EV, where the low dash and doors help you feel like you've got a commanding view of your surroundings.New Powertrain Updates Make The Bolt BetterChase BierenkovenThe Bolt's drivetrain updates make it significantly more appetizing. The new powertrain is ripped from the Equinox EV, making 210 horsepower. The updated charging system features a Tesla-style NACS port for better compatibility and higher speeds of up to 150 kilowatts. Regen now has three levels of adjustment, too, which allows drivers to dial in how their car feels. The Bolt's range also grows to around 262 miles, per the EPA.AdvertisementAdvertisementThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Sep 1, 2026, where it first appeared in the Features section.
