Is This Chrysler's New Airflow Crossover?YouTube / Stellantis (YouTube / Stellantis)Stellantis has big plans on the horizon. The conglomerate of over a dozen automakers announced in May that it would introduce a flurry of new models across its entire lineup, including a Jeep two-door pick-up and a Dodge halo car somewhat analogous to the Ford Mustang GTD. Those might be the most exciting offerings, but the most important for the American market might be the revival of affordable volume cars at Chrysler. That is supposed to happen in the form of multiple new crossovers, and thanks to a teaser posted last week, we now have a much better idea of what one of those cars will likely be.The car—seemingly the Chrysler-specific Airflow crossover—appears briefly in a YouTube video providing an overview of Stellantis powertrains. Thanks to a heavy focus on sharp angles, it shares some of the retro-futuristic hatchback looks of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 on what seems to be a compact crossover platform. Distinctive styling choices include a lower-body cutout built into the doors and a final pillar that starts abruptly with a steep, almost vertical, angle behind the passenger window.Since the video is meant to preview powertrains, we can tell that this particular car has a transversely-mounted engine up front. The Airflow is being built on the Stellantis One platform that can also take hybrid and battery EV powertrains, so alternative options could appear further down the line. The 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain from the new Jeep Cherokee, a mid-sized crossover, would make sense as an eventual fit for the Airflow, too.YouTube / Stellantis (YouTube / Stellantis)While the design may not scream 'Chrysler' from afar, Car and Driver reports that the Airflow pictured in the video is the same design as a full-scale model shown to reporters at a Stellantis investor event two weeks ago. It is expected to launch at less than $40,000, serving alongside two Fiat-based crossovers called the Arrow and Arrow Cross as the heart of Chrysler's volume car offerings going forward. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
