This Popular Lincoln SUV Isn't Dying After AllMichael Simari - Car and Driver (Michael Simari - Car and Driver)Lincoln appears poised to add another Chinese-built SUV to its U.S. lineup. The 2027 Lincoln Corsair will likely share a gas-electric hybrid powertrain with the Nautilus. It seems that, at least initially, just two trim levels will be available, and all-wheel drive will come standard. It appears that reports of the Lincoln Corsair's pending death are greatly exaggerated. While it's true that the current-generation Corsair calls it quits with the conclusion of the 2026 model year, the nameplate itself seems all but confirmed to live on for a new generation.Lincoln China (Lincoln China)Well, that's if a recent addition to the "World Manufacturer Identifier" list that the Ford Motor Company submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is to be believed. Per the document, Lincoln will continue to offer the Corsair in 2027. This time around, though, the compact luxury SUV will take after the bigger Nautilus and see its final assembly location moved to China. Specifically, the Chongqing plant.AdvertisementAdvertisementDue to this, we expect the second-generation Corsair to largely be a copy-and-paste job of the Chinese-market Corsair. Assuming this is the case, then the new North American-market Corsair will sport an exterior design that largely evolves upon that of the current one. Inside, expect Lincoln to feature a dashboard dominated by screens, much like those of the Nautilus and Navigator.Lincoln China (Lincoln China)The VIN data indicates Lincoln plans to offer the next Corsair in Premiere and Reserve guises. Regardless of trim, it appears all Corsairs will come standard with all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain that includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine. We'd wager it's the same setup that Lincoln offers in the larger Nautilus. In that model, the powertrain pushes out 285 horsepower; however, we imagine there's a chance Lincoln sheds a few horses from the stable for Corsair duty.Admittedly, there's always the chance FoMoCo mistakenly submitted this information to NHTSA. We think the odds of that seem low, though. And we're eager to learn more about the 2027 Corsair whenever Lincoln's ready to share it. They know how to reach us.➡️ Skip the lot.
