These digital displays have increasingly led to recalls due to software errors. When they go blank, the driver has no visibility of crucial vehicle information like speed. As the Camry is one of the best-selling vehicles in the U.S., this is a fairly large recall; Toyota has sold almost 180,000 Camrys in the first half of 2026 alone. As recently as May, Toyota had to recall 82,000 vehicles for a similar issue with driver's displays.Toyota Camry Driver's Display Recall2026 Toyota CamryToyotaThe new Camry recall affects 508,000 models across the 2025 and 2026 model years. Specifically, variants with the seven-inch digital driver's display are impacted. AdvertisementAdvertisement"The 7-inch combination meter may become blank at startup," said the automaker. "This can also deactivate the turn signal and hazard lamps and certain warning buzzer sounds (such as the smart key reminder and the driver/passenger seat belt reminder). This can cause the vehicle not to meet certain federal safety standards."Only the LE, SE, and Nightshade Camry trims have the smaller seven-inch display. The XLE and XSE trims use a larger 12.3-inch driver's display, so these models are not affected. What Owners Must Do Now2026 Toyota CamryJoe Santos/AutoblogToyota will notify customers by early October 2026. They'll need to take their vehicles to a dealer for a software update, which will be completed at no charge. The recall has not yet been published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, but Toyota has said customers will be able to use their vehicle identification numbers to see if their vehicles are involved in the recall on the same site. The automaker's customer support is available at 1-800-331-4331 for more information.AdvertisementAdvertisementIf the driver's display does go blank, Camry drivers should be aware that the turn signals may not function, which could be a safety hazard.Toyota's Previous Driver Display Recalls2025-2026 Toyota Camry interiorToyotaToyota has had several recalls linked to blank driver's displays and faulty software. In May, Toyota recalled the Land Cruiser, Mirai, Lexus UX, and Lexus GX for displays that may also go blank. In that case, only models with the larger 12.3-inch driver's display were affected. 82,000 models were affected and the fix was also a software update. Last year, the automaker recalled 591,000 vehicles with 12.3-inch driver displays that could go blank. That recall affected a wide range of models, including the popular RAV4 and Camry. As automakers increasingly digitize their vehicles' dashboards, the chances of a software glitch affecting these displays increase. As high-tech as these screens are when they're operational, it's created a new pain point for drivers; Kia has even been sued for it. Toyota may still be one of the most reliable automakers, but like many other brands, it's experiencing the pitfalls that come with an overabundance of modern car technologies.AdvertisementAdvertisementRelated: Speedometers Could Go Blank: Toyota Recalls Nearly 600,000 Vehicles for Failing Digital DisplayThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Aug 7, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
