This BMW Motorcycle Celebrates the Isle of Man TTBMW Motorrad (BMW Motorrad)Here's a limited-production version of the BMW M1000 RR motorcycle, already a 195-mph screamer. It looks fantastic in British Racing Green, and it features the Isle of Man TT course map painted on its flanks.Celebrity-spotting at this year's races indicates the TT is about to get its Hollywood moment. The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy races have been running all this week, home to some of the most visceral racing on the planet. Even in slow-motion video, which you need to capture just how skilled these riders are at sliding their motorcycles through fast corners with zero room for error, it's heart-in-your-mouth action. Now, BMW has a special-edition bike that celebrates the race.BMW Motorrad (BMW Motorrad)It's based on the already insanely fast M1000 RR, equipped with the Competition Package, which will run up to a top speed of 195 mph. With 205 horsepower from a 999-cc four-cylinder engine and functional aerodynamic elements, it's as terrifyingly uncompromising as the 37.7-mile course itself.AdvertisementAdvertisementBMWs have been winning TTs since the 1930s, and the racing variant of the M RR currently holds the course lap record. In 2023, English rider Peter Hickman set an absolutely blistering average speed of 136.358 mph, lapping the course in 16 minutes and just over 36 seconds. Again, that's average speed, over humpbacked bridges, through blind corners flanked by unforgiving walls, and up and over the barren Snaefell mountain with its gusts of wind and suicidal seabirds. Absolutely bonkers.Undisputed king of the mountain, Michael Dunlop, who just added a 34th TT victory to his total, has won victory on BMW motorcycles six times over the course of his career, including a triple victory in 2014. Other notable TT winners who rode BMWs include Davey Todd, ruled out of this year's event, but sure to present a challenge to Dunlop and Hickman next year.To pay homage to the TT, BMW has given the M RR plenty of carbon fiber and satin-finish aluminum elements, and painted the fairing in a fetching matte British Racing Green. The course itself is featured on the airbox and the sides of the bike, left-hand corners on the left, right-hand corners on the right. There are some embroidered accents too, and a plaque showing where the bike ranks among the just 115 built globally.BMW Motorrad (BMW Motorrad)The timing on this release is extra appropriate, as this year's TT also sees some Hollywood royalty visiting. Fresh off the success of his Formula 1 blockbuster movie, Brad Pitt could be found at the side of the road course this year, checking out the event and hobnobbing with Dunlop et al.AdvertisementAdvertisementAn Isle of Man TT movie, produced by Pitt and starring Channing Tatum, is in production on the island as of May 22. F1: The Movie may not have offered viewers a particularly challenging plot, but it was at least visually impressive, and if this TT movie can capture even a fraction of the frenetic drama of the race, it'll be a must-watch.➡️ Skip the lot.
