Give Westen Champlin a Gen III Hemi stroker motor, and you can count on a good time. Toss in a retired police car, and chaos will ensue. But, as seen in his latest YouTube upload, it's the really, really good kind. He got his hands on one of BluePrint Engines Gen III Hemi Compatible crate engines, jammed two enormous turbos on top of it, and the end result is a ludicrous, tire-frying Dodge Charger police interceptor we all would hate to have on our tails. Hemi Swap Rundown BluePrint Engines, based in Kearny, Nebraska, is the proud manufacturer of some of the baddest crate engines on the planet. Among its more recent releases is its Gen III Hemi Compatible 426-cubic-inch motors. Mopar enthusiasts already love what this is bringing to the table by blending modern performance with displacement that calls back to the Gen II Hemi engines that Chrysler introduced in 1964. With a production run lasting until 1971, the original 426 Hemi, affectionately dubbed "Elephant" due to its incredible stature, earned the reputation of being among the greatest race enginesof all time. When Westen Champlin got his hands on BluePrint's Gen III Hemi Compatible engine, he took things to the next level by force-feeding it that sweet, sweet boost via two 75mm Bullseye turbos. The former police car, a Dodge Charger, in his possession was the prime candidate to receive awesome Hemi power. 426 Hemi Fun Facts Original introduced for racing, de-tuned versions of the 426 Hemi ended up in production cars, earning reputation as lousy street engines, despite respectable power output. “Big Daddy” Don Garlits ended up setting multiple world records when attempting to blow a Gen II 426 race engine up do to its poor performance with an improper tune. To this day, derivatives of the 426 Hemi dominate top fuel drag racing circuits. More than 60 years after its introduction, its still powering some of the fastest racecars in the world. As if a Hemi isn't already a natural pair for the Dodge Charger, BluePrint Engines sends this crate motor with a standalone harness and Holley Terminator X ECU to make the swap snap. This came in handy for the build as the car's original wiring was hardly functional. As for the driveline, the Stage 5 GM Turbo 400 is a bit sacrilegious for the otherwise all-Mopar monster. However, long-term plans to bring the car to its former AWD glory are sure to soften the blow. Now for what you really care about: power output. In its base form, BluePrint Engines' Gen III Hemi Compatible motor pushes out a respectable 610 horsepower at the crank. After Champlin endowed it with his legendary "redneck science," AKA 10 PSI of boost, it belted out an incredible 840 horsepower and 690 ft-lbs of torque on the chassis dyno. He and his crew estimate that it's pushing out closer to 1,000 horsepowerat the crank. An Over-The-Top Burnout Machine Westen Champlin YouTube If you want to see the car in person, you have a chance to by attending the upcoming Horsepower Rodeo, set to go down on May 24th in Winfield, Kansas.
