The restomod segment is exploding. There are a plethora of companies taking classic models and modernizing them for wealthy clients. The Porsche 911 and Toyota Land Cruiser are among the most popular, but Land Rovers are also often the basis for these builds. The company Twisted Automotive is the latest to modernize the first-generation Land Rover Range Rover, a vehicle that helped create today's luxury SUV segment. A major part of the upgrade package is a 500-horsepower LT1 6.2-liter V8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission, giving the rig a significant power boost. Upgraded differentials are part of the package to withstand the extra power. The Twisted Automotive Range Rover Twisted AutomotiveTwisted starts by sourcing a 1990-1992 Range Rover Classic two-door donor vehicle in either left- or right-hand drive, depending on the buyer's preference. The company strips, blasts, and e-coats the chassis and axle casings in a protective satin-black finish to ensure these vehicles remain on the road for years to come. While the exterior looks original, Twisted Automotive replaces the original panels with hammer-formed aluminum bodywork, and the company claims to have "obsessive panel tolerances" to make sure everything fits together perfectly. Range Rover experts might notice that this vehicle blends several eras of the model, including using a 1970s front bumper in addition to a 1990s-style grille and headlight surrounds. The company gives the buyers two choices for the C-pillar layout. Customers can pick the traditional black piece or have it in the body color to accentuate the two-door shape.Twisted AutomotiveThe interior largely maintains the high-class appearance of the original Range Rover. Twisted installs heated front seats and lowers the driving position. The company adds extra sound-deadening material to the carpet pieces so owners can remove them to see the metalwork underneath. An 8-channel discrete audio system and a single-DIN infotainment system let occupants enjoy modern tech while driving this classic-looking vehicle. In addition to the significant drivetrain and body upgrades, Twisted also addresses the Range Rover's suspension. "We spent an age tweaking the bushings so that you got something that was sharp and super drivable but not too harsh. A Range Rover needs to be supple," said Twisted Automotive founder Charles Fawcett. The company also upgrades the brakes with six-piston front calipers and four-piston units at the rear.Twisted Automotive is building just 12 of these Range Rover restomods each year, and prices for them start at the equivalent of $465,000 (£350,000). All the 2026 build slots are already reserved, and the company is accepting orders for them worldwide.Source: Twisted Automotive
