The sports car may be a dying breed in the modern age, with seemingly fewer options out there than ever before, but there’s still an appetite out there among US buyers for cars that put the enthusiast first and foremost. As sales figures for the first quarter of 2026 have now rolled in, we know the models that gearheads across the country have been leaning towards so far this year. Here are the top 10.Entries have been ranked from the slowest to best-selling, based on Q1 figures reported by the automakers. Porsche 718 Q1 2026 Units Sold: 206 2024 Porsche 718 Cayman SThe Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster are dead. You haven’t been able to order a new one since February, meaning existing stock will be the last. That explains why just 206 have been sold, and that number will only continue to dwindle dramatically as remaining stock thins out.An EV replacement has been stuck in development hell for years, and seems unlikely to be arriving on the market anytime soon, if ever. When it does, it could even end up having a combustion engine as part of Porsche’s recent dramatic U-turn on electric models. BMW Z4 Q1 2026 Units Sold: 478 2026 BMW Z4 M40i Final EditionWe’ll confess that the BMW Z4 is an easy car to forget about. Sharing its platform with the Toyota Supra, the convertible has lived a little in the shadow of its polarizing non-identical twin, and that has long reflected in sales figures. Like the Supra, though, production is soon to end, and it will go out with a Final Edition. It has the choice of a six-speed manual or auto transmission, all of which are painted in BMW Individual Frozen Black and with model-specific interior touches. When production ends, it’ll mark the first time you haven’t been able to buy a two-seat BMW since 1995. What a sad note. Subaru BRZ Q1 2026 Units Sold: 803 2025 Subaru BRZ Purple Front Angled ViewFrom January 1 to March 31, 2025, Subaru sold 802 BRZs. This year, it sold more than that. By one. An amusing note, and low numbers in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a delight to see the BRZ is still finding homes. Mechanically identical to the Toyota GR86 and with a competing asking price, picking between the two will come down to which badge you prefer or, most likely, which dealer can offer you a better deal. No doubt the GR86 is winning that internal battle, though. Nissan Z Q1 2026 Units Sold: 899 2025 Nissan Z front 3/4For all of Nissan’s well-documented troubles, it’s still bringing American enthusiasts one of the most recognizable sports cars on the market. Even if its own press release lists sales of the new Z as the 370Z. With no meaningful updates for the 2026 model year, it’s no surprise to see sales slowing down -58.3% year-on-year, but the Nissan Z is clearly still resonating with buyers looking for a relatively affordable coupe balancing comfort and a sporty drive.Later in the year, a facelift model will be arriving with a retuned engine, short-shift manual gearbox, and GT-R brakes, so we wouldn’t expect the sales slump to be a continuing trend. Toyota GR Supra Q1 2026 Units Sold: 919 2026 Toyota GR Supra Final Edition side profileTime is running out for the Toyota GR Supra. Production is set to end imminently, bowing out with no direct successor on the horizon. That may come, but we’ll have to wait and see.Entering its final months of production is likely a factor in its dramatic 118.3% increase in year-on-year sales, along with 2025’s introduction of the Final Edition. Although that isn’t quite the beast that Europe and Japan are getting, the US model does get some suspension changes for a racier feel, along with an extended tailgate spoiler and GR decals along the side. Mazda Miata Q1 2026 Units Sold: 1,695 2026 Mazda MX-5 Given that the fourth-generation Mazda Miata has now crossed over a decade on sale, the fact that any are still being bought is quite remarkable, let alone holding a solid place on the list of best-selling sports cars in the US.Not that it doesn’t deserve it. The lightweight roadster remains one of the most delightful driving experiences on the market, and occasional model year updates throughout its lifespan to bring a bit more power and tech have been welcomed with open arms. Sales are down -30.7% year-on-year, though, suggesting interest may be starting to wane. Toyota GR86 Q1 2026 Units Sold: 2,046 2026 Toyota GR86 Yuzu Yellow Front Angled ViewThe Toyota GR86 is one of those models you think would have limited appeal on the face of things. One engine, the choice of an auto or a manual, and little year-on-year changes other than the occasional special edition. Surely, everyone who wants one will have one by now, right?Seemingly not, as sales of the driver-first sports car are continuing to go on strong despite now being on the market for its fourth year. Sales are slowing a bit, with a -26.3% dip compared to this period in 2025, but nevertheless, the GR86 is finding new homes still, and outperforming its key competitors. Porsche 911 Q1 2026 Units Sold: 3,826 2025 - 2026 Porsche 911 Carrera action As more versions of the updated 992.2 generation Porsche 911 continue to be introduced, it comes as no shock to see sales of the stalwart German sports car rising notably compared with Q1 2025. So far, it’s up 83.4% year-on-year. Will sales start to slow down now that the range is almost complete? Time will tell, though last year’s introduction of the new Turbo S signaled the final model of the core lineup to be introduced. At least, as far as we know.More special models are to come, though. A 992.2 GT3 RS is expected sometime this year, and rumors of a GT2 RS haven’t exactly gone away. These will be low-volume, limited-edition models, but will no doubt return the enthusiast spotlight to the Porsche 911. Chevrolet Corvette Q1 2026 Units Sold: 6,235 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray action Now in its sixth year on sale, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette continues to be one of America’s favorite sports cars. Variety once again helps its case, with the base Stingray, hybrid E-Ray, racier Z06, plus bonkers ZR1 and ZR1X all available. Expect sales to keep going strong too, with the imminent arrival of the Grand Sport adding a further option to the line-up.This will bring with it a new LS6 engine, offering more power and capacity than the LT2 found in the Stingray, which is also set to be switched for the new powertrain. Sales have taken a small year-on-year dip of -8.2%, but don’t expect that trend to continue too aggressively as the new models enter the market. Ford Mustang Q1 2026 Units Sold: 14,074 2024 Mustang GT Blue Front Angle DrivingLittle symbolizes the American dream quite like the Ford Mustang, so it’s no surprise to see it dominating the sports car charts. Just as it did in 2025, 2024, and 2023…There are several factors working in its favor. For a start, you can have it as a coupe or convertible, and in several forms right now, including the base EcoBoost, the classic V8 GT, and the immense Dark Horse — plus hardcore GTD and now SC variants. Also working in its favor is the demise of the Chevrolet Corvette and V8 Dodge Charger in the last couple of years, leaving the Ford Mustang as the only V8 pony car you can buy new today. That might go some way to explaining a 50.1% year-on-year rise in sales.Sources: Toyota, Porsche, BMW, Nissan, Ford, Chevrolet, Subaru.
