What Does the Chevy Silverado Work Truck Include?ChevroletThe Chevy Silverado 1500 has been redesigned for 2027, bringing with it lots of new tech and convenience features. The Work Truck trim is where the Silverado lineup starts, with equipment and finishes intended for, well, work uses.Chevy is also debuting two new small-block V-8 engines on the 2027 Silverado, one of which is expected to find its way into the Work Truck. There's a new Chevy Silverado on the way for 2027, and it promises many significant upgrades over today's truck. Notably, many of those improvements apply to the entry-level Work Truck trim, a configuration that doesn't always get the most appealing new equipment. To give potential buyers an idea of what is and isn't part of the Work Truck package, we've picked apart this trim to see what's inside. What Is the Silverado's Work Truck Trim? The Silverado 1500 Work Truck, or WT, is the most basic version of Chevy's half-ton pickup truck. As the name suggests, it's built for capital-W Work and is intended to be purchased for fleet use or one-off by a solo tradesperson or contractor. These bare-bones trucks are often used as the basis for trade-specific upfits, where an aftermarket provider outfits the vehicle with the tools and modifications necessary to support users in various industries.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Work Truck forgoes fancy interior materials or flashy exterior trim in favor of durability. In the interest of keeping the cost low, it has a shorter list of standard and optional features, so you won't find leather upholstery or ventilated seats here. Instead, think all-vinyl everything, including the flooring and seats, making them easy to clean. Carpeted floor coverings are available, as are rubberized vinyl floor mats and cloth upholstery.Other simplifications include steel wheels, black bumpers, and black plastic exterior trim. Historically, the Work Truck has been the only Silverado trim to offer a two-door regular cab, and we expect that to remain true with the updated 2027 truck.Spy photo of the 2027 Silverado WT in regular-cab formKGP Photography - Car and DriverWhat Equipment Comes Standard? All 2027 Silverado 1500s, including the Work Truck trim, come with a long list of driver-assistance safety features. The WT also gets the same digital interfaces as other Silverados: a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital gauge display for the driver. Expect wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to be included along with an assortment of USB ports.A higher-trim version of the 2027 Silverado with the standard screen setupChevroletGM hasn't shared trim-specific powertrain information yet, but it's a good bet that the Work Truck will once again come standard with GM's TurboMax turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder and offer the smaller of two V-8 engines as an optional upgrade. As before, the WT should be available with rear- or four-wheel drive, and the optional Z71 off-road package. What's New for the 2027 Model? The most noticeable change to the Work Truck for 2027 is the inclusion of the same infotainment and screen setup as you get in higher trims. In the previous-generation Silverado, Work Truck buyers were stuck with an older, small-screen infotainment system measuring just 7.0 inches. There was no option to upgrade to the 13.4-inch display and more modern interface found in higher-trim trucks.AdvertisementAdvertisementAs for that long list of safety features, four are new to the Silverado lineup entirely: automated emergency braking, pedestrian and bicyclist detection for the automated braking system, side bicyclist alert, and reverse automated braking. The Work Truck also gets more standard safety features than before, including adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, rear pedestrian alert, and GM's vibrating Safety Alert Seat.Perhaps more important to folks doing truck stuff, the engine lineup has been updated as well. The 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder returns and has been updated, but Chevy has only shared it will be "enhanced" and that it now comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission like the other engines (the earlier TurboMax uses an eight-speed auto). The 2027 Silverado will also introduce two new V-8 engines, one 5.7-liter V-8 and one 6.6-liter V-8, with output specs still unknown. GM's class-exclusive light-duty turbo-diesel inline-six, the 3.0-liter Duramax, will also return, but like the larger V-8 it too is likely to remain unavailable to WT buyers. You Might Also LikeGift Guide: Best Ride-On Electric Cars for KidsFuture Cars Worth Waiting For: 2025–2029
