New Pajero Has Spin on Classic Off-Road GaugesMitsubishi / InstagramMitsubishi was a relatively early entrant to the SUV game, building its first Pajero (known as the Montero here in America) all the way back in 1982. As soft-roaders and off-roaders have boomed, though, the brand has largely sat on the sidelines. Americans haven't had the chance to buy a Montero since 2006, and no market has gotten any new SUV from Mitsubishi since 2021. That is, finally, about to change with a new model, and the brand's latest teaser shows off a modern take on a beloved off-roading feature. In a teaser shared to Instagram, Mitsubishi shows off distinct, digitized takes on gauges for altitude, pitch, and roll. Since the clip starts with a shot of the three-gauge cluster featured in the center console of first- and second-generation Pajeros, the suggestion here is that these digital gauges, too, might be mounted in a center console to provide specific information at all times. As the new Pajero is seemingly being marketed as a return to off-road capability for Mitsubishi, the three gauges could come in handy out on the trails. While the Pajero has not been confirmed for North America, and these teasers are conspicuously absent from Mitsubishi's U.S. social media pages, the description features a hint backing up a previous rumor that the brand is planning a revival here, too. The Instagram post includes hashtags for both the Pajero and Montero names, and while the Montero name is used in other markets, its inclusion here is still an encouraging sign for long-suffering American Mitsubishi enthusiasts that have not seen a particularly exciting new product from the company since the Evo went dark a decade ago.AdvertisementAdvertisementConfirmation of an American-market Montero may be aways away, but the Pajero should be revealed for the Asian market very soon. Rumors from earlier this month indicate that the localized Montero may not arrive until the 2030 model year, however, so expect a sizable wait between the global reveal and a firsthand look at that car.You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
