Sales of cars that have been discontinued always show up on the charts at least a few months after production ends. There will still be examples heading out to dealers and sitting on lots for a while. Even a few random sales a year after aren't too crazy. What's weird is when a car that's been discontinued for multiple years still sells, and in numbers greater than, say, 10. That's the situation with the Dodge Challenger, which, somehow, just keeps selling. It's One Of Three Discontinued Products Still Selling Looking at the American sales for Stellantis this quarter, we found that Dodge actually sold a whole 45 Challengers. Considering the fact that production ended for the big coupe at the end of 2023, that's quite remarkable. Apparently, dealers must have some strategic Challenger reserves, though, since in the same time period for 2025, Dodge sold more than 900. So it seems that the remaining Challengers are drying up, but we would have thought that had happened long ago.StellantisThe Challenger isn't the only long-dead model still moving units, though. The Jeep Renegade was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2023 model year. Jeep dealers didn't sell quite as many of the little SUV as the Challenger, but 23 examples is still a surprising amount. Last year they managed to sell 370 of them. So, again, there seemed to be a reserve of them, but that was probably unintentional. According to the old report about the Renegade's cancellation, dealers had more than a year's worth of inventory sitting around. Then, there's the Fiat 500X. It's a cousin of the Renegade and left the U.S. market in the same time frame. It's still selling, and it actually did better than the Challenger and Renegade combined, with a total of 71 units sold this year. One main difference, though, is that last year wasn't much different, with 74 500Xs being sold.Stellantis They Illustrate How Grim Stellantis EV Sales Are What surely has Stellantis concerned is that the sales of its EV models have declined so much to look like those of models that are multiple model years old. The worst of them is the Fiat 500e, which is somewhat understandable simply because its low range and comparatively high price tag makes it a particularly niche product. Still, Fiat sold just 68 examples, and, yes, that's fewer than the 3-year-old 500X. The drop-off is pretty similar to the Renegade, since Fiat sold 448 units in the first quarter last year. The Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S have fared a little better this year, but they had farther to fall. Dodge only sold 240 Daytonas this quarter, compared with 1,947 last year. The Wagoneer S only reached 175 sales, and in the first quarter of last year it had outperformed the Daytona with 2,595 sales. We can even put these sales into perspective with yet another discontinued product: the Dodge Hornet. With 417 sales, the Hornet outsold both of these currently available EVs. Clearly Stellantis needs to do something to turn those EVs around, and soon.
