Open the door to this sedan and you're instantly enveloped in a more refined air—thanks in part to the many hours and many hands that honed every detail. As I sat down to consider my experience driving the 2027 Maybach S-Class (for another story that will publish shortly), I got lost in the beauty of this car's details, its pedigree and its pampering touches. Before diving into what I think about this car, one that will certainly be priced in the mid-$200,000s and up when pricing is announced later this year, can we just savor the details for a while?AdvertisementAdvertisementThis story is 100% human-researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experience and expertise on the subject of cars and trucks. Additionally, I was a guest of Mercedes-Maybach to experience this car but all opinions are my own.The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach Creates an Elegant SilhouetteThe 2027 Mercedes-Maybach – Credit: Scotty ReissLuxury cars evolve and changes are subtle. The scale and shape of the Maybach S-Class remain familiar, though for 2027, Maybach is offering new colors thanks to its Manufaktur Made to Measure program. I really loved the green on cream shown here.Read: What It's Like to Drive the World's Fanciest Mercedes-Benz: Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 Test DriveNew Details Define Maybach's Front FaceThe front end of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissFor 2027, Maybach embraces the classic while expanding what it does so well. New for the model year is a dual-tone paint option thanks to the Manufaktur Made to Measure program. The front grille is larger and more expressive, and its face is lighted at night, including the standing 3-star logo and the Maybach name in the top of the grille's chrome surround. The new face, along with the 3-star headlights, lower Maybach-logo panels and classic multi-spoke wheels creates a distinct and elegant look.Watch: How does the last model compare to this Mercedes-Maybach S-Class?The Standing 3 Star Logo is an S-Class ExclusiveThe 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class includes a standing 3-point star logo on the hood – Credit: Scotty ReissTake a closer look at the standing star logo; this is an S-Class exclusive detail. We saw tobacco and black interiors, but white with tuxedo stripe detail is the one that appealed to me most. I love the light that white leather casts inside the car, keeping the tone and the mood airy and refined. It feels like summer all year. Among the details that caught my breath were the interior leather trim on the steering wheel, the passenger-side screen and the large head-up display with augmented reality, a graphic overlay on the screen so you'll never miss a turn. And then, I really loved the phone charger. The lack of rubber or plastic here simply charmed me. It's an elegant solution to a quizzical issue: How to make a wireless phone charger elegant; Maybach solved it beautifully.Microsuede Headrest Pillows for Everyone! The interior of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissWe've seen these in recent years but they were relegated only to rear seat passengers. Now, driver and front passenger have them, too. They are a small touch but mean so very much; they feel so elegant and let you really sit back and enjoy the ride. The Executive Package Is a Must If You're Not the DriverThe executive seats in the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissPress a button on the seat control panel and the front passenger's seat slides forward, an ottoman rises from under the rear seat, the seat slides back a bit and you're shifted into a relaxed pose. Controllers on the center console allow you to change the music or control the seat-back screens without having to move from your seat. A Champagne chiller tucked between the seat backs keeps your bubbly cold, a wireless phone charger holds your phone and window shades keep the sun's rays at bay. Inside the arm rest you'll find tray tables that fold out. If you're not driving, this is the way to go.Simply Brilliant: A Console Built For BubblyThe executive seats in the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissAdvertisementAdvertisementThere's a built-in Champagne chiller, but once you've opened the bottle, you can't put it back into the chiller. That's an issue; what to do with the bottle? The solution was to widen one of the cup holders so it holds the bottle, and give it an option to keep the bottle cool (the cupholders have the option of being heated, too). The small round plates next to the cup holder? Those are flute holders: Pop your flute into the holder and press lightly; the clips pop up to grasp the bottom of the flute. How the Flutes Work in the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-ClassThe Executive Package includes a center console designed to hold flutes and Champagne – Credit: Mercedes-MaybachHere's a look at how the flute holders grasp the flutes. You can bring your own, but you're better advised to add the sterling flutes to your package. Made by Robbe & Berking, silver plated flutes retail for about $875 each and sterling silver flutes are about $1,500 each. And it's much better than having a mishap that ends in shattered crystal falling into the crevices of the car.Hand-Held Remotes Control the Music, Streaming and MoreThe executive seats in the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissNew for 2027 are hand-held controllers the size of an iPhone mini. Press the triangle on the console and these pop out and offer you access to music, climate controls, seat back screens, window shades and more. No need to reach further than the armrest. (Also, the seats have lighted seat belt receptacles!)Our Stealth Dark Blue Test Model Glows in Dark ChromeThe 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Night Series in dark blue – Credit: Scotty ReissThis model captured my attention instantly; painted a dark metallic blue with deep sparkles in the paint, I loved the dark chrome trim and monoblock wheels. Until this model year, the Maybach hallmark has been two-tone paint in subtle silver, gray and black, giving it the formal feel of a tuxedo. But for 2027, paint is the new frontier and the company is offering sky's-the-limit paint options. The single dark blue color lends an overall feel of stealth elegance.AdvertisementAdvertisementBetter, it begs you to look more closely to discover its details and find the Maybach logos that are a subtle nod on this trim. The Maybach Logo Stands Out Against the Sparkly Blue PaintThe 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class logo on the rear pillar behind the rear doors, sitting amid a metallic glow in our test model – Credit: Scotty ReissThe Maybach logo adorns the rear pillars on either side behind the rear doors, sitting amid a metallic glow in our test model. The dark chrome glows a bit rosy here in the sunlight, giving a wink to those who look twice to be sure they saw what they thought they saw.One of My Favorite Details: Maybach-Logo-Inflected Lower PanelsThe lower accent panels on the front face are notable for the textured Maybach logos – Credit: Scotty ReissOn our dark blue test model, these panels are black-on-black and surrounded by dark chrome (refer back to the green and cream Maybach for the brighter treatment). This treatment lends an if-you-know-you-know feel to the front of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.The Rear Tail Lights Are a Bright Spot in the Stealth SilhouetteThe rear of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class – Credit: Scotty ReissThe rear tail lights take on a new design motif we've seen with Mercedes lately: Tri-star tail lights. Here, they wrap around the corners of the Maybach S-Class, setting off in a bright glow against the midnight blue and dark chrome. The Original Maybach: The One That Started It AllThe original Mercedes-Maybach logo and standing hood icon on a classic Zeppelin model – Credit: Scotty ReissAdvertisementAdvertisementWhile luxury brands are an evolution more than a revolution, early Maybachs didn't follow that rule; they brought innovation to luxury in a way that was revolutionary. They offered powerful 12-cylinder engines, inventive transmissions, leather covering every surface, even sun shades to keep passengers out of the sun's rays. It was this logo that announced its arrival, something the evolved standing star does today. And it set the stage for a future of defining luxury through attention to detail.
