The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Packs Subie Soul in a Toyota Body—And The Combo is PerfectA Girls Guide to CarsAllison BarfieldSat, September 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM UTCAdd us on GoogleThe 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Packs Subie Soul in a Toyota Body—And The Combo is PerfectThe 2026 Subaru Trailseeker checks multiple boxes for comfort, capability, advanced tech, and performance for a well-rounded adventurer and daily commuter.Subaru's partnership with Toyota resulted in some seriously capable, surprisingly affordable, and cheekily fun EVs. I've experienced the Subaru Uncharted and was shocked by how maternal I felt towards the cute little EV with such a rambunctious personality. Yes, I know it shares literally everything—including the interior design and layout—with the Toyota C-HR. But Subaru did an amazing job taking an industry clone and making it stand out. Sort of like a set of identical twins that act and dress differently, and hang with different crowds. The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is no exception. It's essentially a copy-and-paste job of the Toyota bZ Woodland, with 375 horsepower, X-MODE for off-roading, and a range of up to 281 miles—for $48,005. It's not an electric Outback, but it sure as heck felt like one. Like the Uncharted, it was full of Subie spirit, and it made me want to find a muddy road, let loose, and put a Coexist sticker on the back window (I resisted, but barely).AdvertisementAdvertisementAside from being more fun than I expected, here's what else you need to know about the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker. This story is 100% human-researched and written based on actual first-person knowledge, extensive experience, and expertise on the subject of cars and trucks.First, What Comes With The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Touring?Rainy days don't scare the 2026 Subaru TrailseekerThere are four trim levels of the Trailseeker, with prices ranging from $39,995 to $46,855 for the top-tier Touring Leather model. My test model was the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Touring, which is the second-most luxurious choice, starting at $46,555. After a few add-ons and the delivery fee, my Touring totaled to $48,005.Here's what you get for the price, in addition to the standard equipment:AdvertisementAdvertisementA Panoramic sunroofVentilated front seatsRadiant leg heaters for front occupantsA digital rearview mirrorA Gloss black hood accentThe Touring builds upon plenty of standard features like a power lift gate, synthetic leather upholstery, a 14-inch touchscreen, two wireless phone chargers, LED headlights, Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a full suite of standard EyeSight safety features. The mid-level Limited trim is might be the best value, with a 360-degree camera, a household-style outlet, a heated steering wheel, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system for $43,995.The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Conquers The WildMud and dirt don't bother the Trailseeker Credit: Allison BarfieldIn Asheville, North Carolina, you have crowded city spaces, mountains, backcountry roads, dirt roads, washed-out paths, and more. A well-rounded option like the Subaru Trailseeker is perfect for anything that this mountain town throws your way. During my week with the TrailSeeker EV, it rained every single day. However, the symmetrical all-wheel drive system, vehicle stability control, and standard all-terrain tires keep you in control. In heavy rainstorms at highway speeds, this SUV felt planted and confident. It didn't slip or slide and provided a cozy place to stay dry and comfortable.AdvertisementAdvertisementIt has an 8.5-inch ground clearance for clearing obstacles, which was great in the woods. The four-wheel independent suspension delivers power to each wheel as needed in mud, ruts, and over uneven surfaces. The tires also provide a lot of grip on slick surfaces. I was a bit worried about its weight, but it rings in at 4,465 to 4,565 lbs, putting it on par with a Jeep Wrangler.I never needed to use the Hill Assist feature to provide extra power over inclines, but I liked that it's there. It also features downhill assist that controls your speed during declines and off-roading modes for snow, mud, deep snow, and deep mud. I kept it in mud mode. Last but not least, this SUV is agile and easy to turn around on trails, especially with the help of the 360-degree camera views to avoid obstacles. The Subaru Trailseeker EV Is Fun On The PavementLook at that LED grille emblem on the Subaru Trailseeker Credit: Allison BarfieldWhile I enjoyed trekking to hiking trails deep in the woods, I also had plenty of fun taking the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV around town for errands. This Subie pumps out 375 hp and 396 lb-ft of torque across all trims, unlike the Toyota bZ, which only offers that much in the Woodland trim. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds, making it the quickest production Subaru ever. And it doesn't even have an STi or tS badge. This is a big deal, as I feel like many of us drivers out there have sighed while being stuck behind an older Outback or Forester. No offense to those safe and reliable rides, but they're assumed to be a little slow, and the Trailseeker shatters that stereotype, especially while using Normal or Power mode instead of Eco. Plus, it's well composed around sharp curves so you don't get that leaning sensation in the pit of your stomach.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Trailseeker has an 18.3-foot turning radius, meaning it's easy to fit into any parking space despite being a midsize SUV. It's also impressively smooth as it glides over potholes and uneven surfaces. Best of all, the Trailseeker's frame is bolstered with plenty of noise insulation materials for a quiet and peaceful ride. How Much Range Does The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker Have?Bruce says the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is dog approved Credit: Allison BarfieldThe Subaru Trailseeker EV features an EPA-estimated range of 274 to 281 miles depending on the trim level. I had the top-spec Touring trim, by the way. Rivals crest over 300 miles with rear-wheel drive. Unfortunately, all-wheel drive is heavier and takes an impact on range. But AWD has reduced the fuel efficiency of gas-powered cars, so it's a trade-off no matter what you drive. The Trailseeker holds its charge well while the ventilated seats, Apple CarPlay, premium sound system, A/C, and more are all going at once. In the Solterra, using all of the tech and comfort features at once took a toll on the charge. In other EVs, I've noticed that the A/C doesn't feel as effective on sweltering days, but the Trailseeker keeps you nice and cool. The Trailseeker features a native NACS charge port for direct Tesla Supercharger access, plus a bundled CCS adapter for third-party DC fast chargers. Subaru claims a 10% to 80% fast-charge time of roughly 28 minutes at up to 150 kW—a realistic figure that beats the Volkswagen ID.4, even if it trails the lightning-fast 18-minute pace of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. While trailhead charging networks (such as Jeep's 4xe stations) are expanding near outdoor hubs, keep in mind they use standard J1772 plugs, so you'll want an inexpensive J1772 adapter on hand before heading off-grid.Does The TrailSeeker Have Enough Space? The Subaru Trailseeker EV has plenty of space Credit: Allison BarfieldCritics immediately call the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker out for not having as much rear passenger space as its rivals. However, my 45-pound beagle-mix, Bruce, had tons of space back there, and he was kept cool by rear-facing air vents. I also fit quite well at 5'1", and there's enough leg space for average-sized adults to sit behind taller folks in the front. On that note, the front-row seats are incredibly spacious with tons of adjustment controls.AdvertisementAdvertisementYou can access 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats and up to 74 cubic feet overall. It offers more convenience and space than rivals. The doors and rear hatch open wide to simplify installing child seats or heavier, bulkier items. If you need more space, take advantage of the 3,500 lb towing capacity or roof rails. But all of your family's luggage will fit without any issues.Storage space for personal items is a bit lacking. There is no glove box because Subaru places HVAC components in that space to provide better off-roading maneuverability. The center console is adequate, and the door pockets are helpful. Also, the pass-through space under the dual wireless phone chargers is beneficial. But I'd rather have storage space than a second wireless phone charging pad while driving alone. The Subaru Trailseeker Looks Great Inside And OutThe Subaru Trailseeker brings the heat with modern style Credit: Allison BarfieldPlenty of spectators were attracted to my test model. The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker maintains the spirit of Subaru wagons with its curvy shape and keeps being compared to older Outback models before that gas-powered model did the unthinkable by going square and boxy like other SUVs.The black plastic cladding over the wheel arches helps its rugged appeal as the LED grille emblem shines. Also, the headlights are based on the star constellation in the Subaru logo, which is a nice touch. You can't ignore that attractive shade of Sapphire Blue Pearl either. Everything about this EV oozes peak Subaru style.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe interior doesn't hurt the eyes at all with contrasting blue, black, and grey hues across the upscale upholstery and dash. Simple touches like painted metal accents and contrast stitching help it pop, and the ambient interior lighting pulls it all together. Features like the flattened steering wheel, 14-inch touchscreen display, and digital gauges give it a modern feel.Look at that massive panoramic roof Credit: Allison BarfieldBut my absolute favorite part is the massive panoramic sunroof that gives you and your passengers the ability to view nature. It has a nice tint to keep bright sun rays at bay, and the power cover opens and closes with the touch of a button.Overall, the Subaru Trailseeker is perfect for those who want to go electric for peaceful adventuring without a loud engine to disrupt nature. It has more space than the Subaru Uncharted and more rugged capability to get you out of the city, with plenty of range to power its sporty attitude.Related HeadlinesAdvertisementAdvertisement2026 Jeep Recon EV First Drive: The Most Sophisticated Jeep Ever Is a Delightful Pod of Clever Fun2026 Jeep Recon EV First Drive: The Most Sophisticated Jeep Ever Is a Delightful Pod of Clever FunThe 2026 Ford Expedition Tremor 3-Row SUV Brings Big-Rig Muscle to Everyday ComfortRead more at A Girls Guide to Cars
