2026 GMC Sierra TungstenGMCThe 2026 Ram 1500 Tungsten Crew Cab 4x4 is the flagship version of Ram's full-size, half-ton pickup. It sits above the already luxurious Limited, comes only as a roomy four-door Crew Cab, and pairs four-wheel drive with the 5-foot-7-inch bed.In short, it's essentially a luxury sedan cabin mounted on a serious body-on-frame truck, with the strongest version of Ram's Hurricane six-cylinder engine. A week behind its wheel proved it the mightiest machine most everywhere I rolled - and I didn't mind a bit. What's new for 2026?Very little changed on the Tungsten itself following the Ram 1500's extensive 2025 refresh. The larger 2026 news is the return of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the revival of the lower-priced Express trim, and a new BackCountry off-road package. The Tungsten does not get the returning Hemi and continues exclusively with the high-output Hurricane engine. Ram also introduced longer powertrain warranty coverage for qualifying 2026 trucks.2026 GMC Sierra TungstenEngine, mileage and priceThe Tungsten uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six producing 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. It feels like an 8, and that's the point. EPA estimates are an ultra-feeble 15 mpg city, 21 highway and 17 combined, and premium gasoline is recommended. The tank holds 33 gallons, though, so you don't feel like you're feeding a thirsty fish.AdvertisementAdvertisementBase MSRP is listed at $88,800. Kelley Blue Book shows a current sticker price of approximately $91,145 including delivery, before options. Brawn is not cheap, my dude. What does it look like? The Tungsten's got that prizefighter aggressive flavor with a trim-specific grille, redesigned front fascia, elaborate LED lighting, 22-inch wheels, substantial brightwork and enormous RAM lettering across the tailgate. Is it long? Sure is. It measures 232.9 inches long, 82.1 inches wide and 77.6 inches tall, with a 144.5-inch wheelbase. Listed curb weight is approximately 5,930 pounds. If you fall in love with big trucks, you'll feel your heart beat faster when you see this one.2026 GMC Sierra TungstenInteriorThe cabin is gargantuan, particularly in back, where passengers receive 45.2 inches of legroom - more than many executive sedans. If you're on a date, you could conceivably both sit back there and talk and eat, for example, or you can also pack it with children, animals or a bunch of guitars. The Tungsten features great-smelling premium leather, extensive soft-touch trim, 24-way heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, reclining heated and ventilated rear seats, a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, passenger display, digital instrument panel, head-up display, dual wireless charging pads and a 23-speaker Klipsch audio system.2026 GMC Sierra TungstenWhen you get in, it's always an event. It's also a great vehicle if you're an extra-large human. The driveFor something weighing nearly three tons, it is exceptionally fast. Some outlets recorded 0-to-60 mph in 4.4 seconds in the mechanically identical 2025 Tungsten, with a quarter-mile time of 13 seconds. Acceleration is smooth, forceful and almost absurdly effortless at highway speeds. The available air suspension and coil-spring rear end deliver a quiet, settled ride, while the steering is light enough to make the truck relatively easy to place in traffic. This also means you don't have to be a bodybuilder to drive it - you can be petite and still steer, brake, accelerate and handle like a champ.Side box for tools, firearms, whatever you need to store outside the vehicle. There's one on the other side, too.K-turns are manageable with the cameras and light steering, but the 46.2-foot turning circle means tight streets still require planning. Large windows provide generally good outward visibility, although the high hood and body sides make nearby low objects difficult to judge without the surround-view cameras. You'll have to go slowly in many situations just to be sure not to scrape and chew your body, and people will just have to wait. Nobody beeped at me, either. The Tungsten inspires respect wherever you go. Just don't take forever.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe brake pedal has somewhat long travel but is progressive and easy to modulate. The Tungsten remains composed through ordinary curves, but faster cornering produces pronounced understeer, limited steering feedback and considerable awareness of its size and weight. It's not a Durango HEMI, more to haul and just be big than "go fast."2026 GMC Sierra TungstenRoom for improvementThe obvious drawbacks are the price, premium-fuel requirement, 17-mpg combined rating, bulky dimensions and isolated steering. The rotary gear-selection knob creates useful console space but lacks the satisfying certainty of a conventional shifter. The truck can also go crazy with the beeps while you're trying to concentrate. It would be great if the driver could just shut them off. Finally, Ram's attention and drowsiness monitoring systems use cameras and other sensors to determine whether the driver is watching the road. But it goes off when you're…watching the road. Conclusion: It's a big, expensive, luxurious truck. The complaints are minimal. If you've got the coin and the driveway room, it's a solid choice. This article was originally published on Forbes.com
