From the subcompact X1 all the way to the sizable X7, there's one for every size and every budget. The entry-level models consist of the X1 and X2, the latter being a 'Sports Activity Coupe.'But one off-road shop in Dubai has a totally different take on the genre, resulting in something we'd actually love to take dune-bashing. Think of it as a more literal take on the X2, using the coupe's body instead of being an X1 with a lower roof.Zeus Offroad/InstagramInspired by the M2 DakarInterestingly, this unique build was inspired by a BMW April Fool's model. That car was the M2 Dakar, and it was merely a digital render, much to the dismay of some folks. With that, Zeus Offroad (via Carscoops) made it a reality, but instead of an M2, the shop used an M240i. Sure, it's not the full M model, but 382 hp is still a lot of fun on the loose stuff.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe car now rides on custom suspension, benefiting from a three-inch lift so the coupe now sits about 8 inches off the ground. It also gets Flatout adjustable coilovers to give the car even more articulation when the going gets even tougher. That said, it wasn't mentioned if it was an M240i xDrive with all-wheel drive, but even if it's not, that doesn't make the build any less epic. Trophy trucks are rear-drive-only, but they are still cool.Zeus Offroad/InstagramOther ModsThe mechanicals are all there, but this unique build also looks the part of an adventure vehicle. The body gets aluminum front and rear bumpers, along with underbody protection to keep the car's innards safe. Its wheels are smaller than the stock M240i's, but that's to accommodate those beefy all-terrain tires.Completing the look is a roof-mounted tray and a set of auxiliary driving lights. A custom exhaust system was also built to accommodate the changes to the coupe's rear bumper. Overall, a sweet build, and we're genuinely curious if Zeus Offroad will accept customer cars down the line.Still, it would be cool if BMW actually built an off-road 2 Series Coupe, or even a high-riding M2. The M3 Touring 24H is proof that the company is more than willing to turn April Fool's specials into reality, so one can still hope for that M2 Dakar shown last year.BMWThis story was originally published by Autoblog on Jun 30, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
