Porsche Adds Simulated Shifts to '27 Taycan Modelskoslowskiphoto_2025As recently as 2024, representatives from Porsche suggested that the brand was not interested in artificial shifting technology for its EVs. Two interviews late last year suggested that the stance had since softened, however. Now, less than a year after that, the tech is actually reaching a Porsche road car. Starting with the 2027 model year, every single Taycan model is getting an optional "E-Shift" mode.Porsche says that the new shifting system makes the Taycan driving experience "even more emotive and intense." The system integrates with a virtual rev limiter, simulated gear-specific drag torque, and a new take on the existing "Porsche Electric Sport Sound" that the car can play while accelerating to simulate the effects of gears. In practice, it sounds very similar to the setup used on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. The feature can be turned off and is controlled by a button on an optional steering wheel, although it is standard on the range-topping Taycan Turbo GT.The simulated shifting function is the biggest of a few model year changes for the Taycan line. Another upgrade comes underneath the cabin, where the larger 105-kWh "Performance Battery Plus" battery is now standard on base, 4, and 4S model Taycans. All models but the Turbo GT also get a new NACS-native DC fast charging port on the left side of the car, although the right side charging port remains the usual J1772 AC charging port. Porsche says that buyers will also get a CCS adapter with their cars, allowing access to the fast chargers that the current-generation Taycan uses natively.koslowskiphoto_20252027 Taycans also receive an updated infotainment software meant to be more intuitive and more customizable. This system is now capable of over-the-air updates, too. Finally, wireless charging of smartphones is now about 1.5 times as fast as it used to be, and 16 new colors are available in what is now a 153-color paint-to-sample catalog.AdvertisementAdvertisementAll of these '27 Taycan additions are now available to order. Deliveries should start and cars should reach dealer lots in the fall of 2026.You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
