Polestar Building the Wagon We Want, Just Too LatePolestarTwo weeks ago, enthusiasts in America were hit with a bombshell: Polestar, the Chinese-owned Swedish EV manufacturer, would be exiting the U.S. market after failing to receive a waiver to get around U.S. Department of Commerce "connected vehicles" policy. The ruling means that the company cannot sell cars built after the 2027 model year in the country, leaving Americans to find deals on the final cars brought into the country. Unfortunately, that means we probably will not be getting Polestar's newest 4 variant any time soon—and that seems like a crying shame.Called the 4 SUV and set to be formally revealed in short order, teasers shown on Tuesday and in February, as well as the profile and proportions of the currently available model, suggest that the first Polestar 4 with a rear window actually represents a conventional two-box wagon more than it does a high-riding soft-roader. The biggest change from the standard 4 is the presence of a rear window, reversing a notorious decision made on the hatchback / coupe-like 4 currently on sale in the U.S. and elsewhere. The current Polestar 4 and its non-windowed rear. Will Sabel CourtneyA Polestar release claims that the 4 SUV gets a "refined driving experience" over the standard 4, thanks to "retuned chassis dynamics." Peak range and power are both slightly improved, with single-motor variants adding 21 miles of generous WLTP cycle range over the longest-distance 4 on sale today. The dual-motor model offers up to 544 horsepower, according to the release.AdvertisementAdvertisementPolestar says that buyers can get their hands on the 4 SUV starting on September 2nd and that it will be available in "a majority of Polestar markets." Sadly, unless something changes, the ruling two weeks ago means that the U.S. will not be a Polestar market at all for much longer. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
