Image: NissanNissan has unveiled the third generation of the Juke at its Nissan Vision Event in Japan. For the first time, the model is being introduced as a fully battery-electric vehicle. The Juke has been one of the brand’s success stories, with around 1.5 million units of the first two generations sold in Europe since its market launch in 2010.With the new generation, Nissan is not only switching to an electric powertrain but also taking the design further. The carmaker describes the updated look as ‘daring and unconventional,’ aimed at expressing greater ‘personality and emotion.’The show car version of the E-Juke stands out in a bright neon green finish, contrasted by large black elements, including the bonnet, roof, wheel arches and lower body sections. Strong character lines shape the flanks, while the two-tone design reinforces the impression of an angular and rugged exterior. Additional design features include a sloping roofline and a subtle roof spoiler. The headlights are particularly distinctive with their hexagonal layout. While the rounded bonnet echoes elements of its predecessor, the overall design of the new Juke takes clear inspiration from the Hyper Punk concept presented by Nissan at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023.Nissan has yet to disclose technical details of the electric Juke. However, industry observers expect the model to share its technology with the third-generation Nissan Leaf. Both vehicles are produced at the Sunderland plant and are based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-EV platform, which also underpins models such as the Nissan Ariya and the Renault Mégane E-Tech.For reference, the Leaf is offered with either a 52 kWh or 75 kWh NMC battery, with a claimed range of up to 622 kilometres. The powertrain consists of a front-mounted motor delivering 130 or 160 kW. More details on the model can be found in our driving review of the new Leaf. The carmaker has announced that the first test phase of production at its Sunderland plant will begin in the coming weeks.“Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention. With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age,” said Clíodhna Lyons, Region Vice President, Product, Brand & Marketing Strategy, Nissan AMIEO. “As our first fully electric Juke, it will help us reach new customers while expanding choice across our electrified range.” Nissan also confirms that the Juke will continue to be offered as a hybrid. In addition to the Leaf and the Juke, Nissan’s Sunderland plant will soon also produce an electric version of the Qashqai, the brand’s best-selling model in Europe. The company announced this in late 2023. Overall, the Leaf, along with the two additional electric models—the Qashqai and Juke—plus a new battery gigafactory and infrastructure projects, are expected to result in a multi-billion-pound investment in the UK.autocar.co.uk, europe.nissannews.com
