Nissan NX7 PHEV prototypes have been spotted in Guangzhou, China. Credit: Weibo The Nissan NX7 has been spotted on Chinese roads ahead of its expected Q4 2026 launch. The mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV is the fourth model in Dongfeng Nissan’s new-energy N-series, which serves China’s domestic market while supporting Nissan’s broader push to export China-developed vehicles to overseas markets. According to China EV DataTracker, The NX7 is arriving as Nissan faces continued sales pressure in China. Dongfeng Nissan sold 24,014 vehicles in August 2026, up 13.5% from July but down 54.5% year on year, with a 1.6% market share. The NX8 accounted for 2,498 units, while the N7 sedan recorded 928, down 90.9% year on year. Sportier exterior distinguishes NX7 from NX8. Uncamouflaged photos show the NX7’s exterior, including its wheel designs and optional roof-mounted LiDAR. Test vehicles have been spotted both with and without the sensor, consistent with regulatory filings that list it as optional. The sightings follow Dongfeng Nissan’s August unveiling of the NX7 SUV with LiDAR. The NX7 has a lower-slung profile than the upright NX8. Its front end features split headlights, with slim horizontal daytime running lights above primary clusters positioned in vertical bumper channels. A lower bumper air intake is also visible. The side profile features a floating-roof effect, semi-hidden mechanical door handles, and body-colored wheel arches. Test vehicles have appeared with 18-inch and 19-inch wheels across three designs. Red brake calliper covers are also visible. At the rear, a full-width darkened LED taillight strip sits below an integrated roof spoiler. Dimensions and packaging Regulatory filings list the NX7 at 4,785 mm long, 1,932 mm wide, and 1,665 mm tall. Alternative configurations measure 1,920 mm wide and 1,660 mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,815 mm, and curb weight ranges from 1,915 kg to 2,000 kg. The NX7 is shorter than the three-row NX8, which measures 4,870 mm long with a 2,917 mm wheelbase. Its 2,815 mm wheelbase exceeds the combustion-powered X-Trail’s 2,706 mm. The NX7 has five seats, unlike the three-row NX8. 40.95 kWh battery and urban NOA The NX7 uses a 40.95 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with cells supplied by the CATL-FAW joint venture. Its capacity exceeds the 26.6 kWh option offered for the BYD Song Plus DM-i and the 18.7 kWh option available for the Geely Galaxy L7. The NX7’s pack is about 54% larger than the former and 2.2 times as large as the latter. Regulatory-based reporting lists pure-electric ranges of 220 km and 225 km, depending on configuration, under the WLTC test procedure. Further specifications are available in the earlier NX7 PHEV specifications report. Dongfeng Nissan has confirmed urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA). The automaker previously worked with Momenta on driver-assistance technology for the N7 sedan, but it has not disclosed the NX7’s specific software configuration or supplier allocation. 1.5L plug-in hybrid powertrain The NX7 pairs a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with an electric drive motor. Regulatory specifications list: 1.5L engine: 73 kW (98 hp) Electric motor: 170 kW (228 hp) peak output These ratings don’t indicate how the hybrid system distributes power or when the engine drives the wheels. Pricing and final trim configurations have not yet been announced. The five-seat Nissan NX7 measures 4,785 mm long and has a 2,815 mm wheelbase, placing it below the larger NX8 in overall size.
