Developed by Zhengzhou Nissan, the company’s joint venture in China, this vehicle marks a milestone as Nissan’s first model designed and produced in China for global export. Nissan launched the vehicle in China first in October 2025. As reported by Nikkei, following the launch in Mexico, the Frontier Pro is scheduled to arrive in the Philippines in November. Nissan plans to further expand the model’s availability across the Middle East, Central and South America, and Oceania by the end of 2026. By 2027, the vehicle will be introduced to the Australian and New Zealand markets under the name “Navara Pro.” Performance and specifications The Frontier Pro offers gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options. The vehicle measures 5520 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1950 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3300 mm. The standard gasoline and diesel models are equipped with the third-generation M9T engine paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and BorgWarner’s Mlock intelligent four-wheel-drive system. These models deliver a maximum power output of 136 kW (182 hp) and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The PHEV variant, which will be the primary offering in markets such as Mexico, Central and South America, Asia, and Oceania, features a high-performance plug-in hybrid system. Market positioning and pricing In Mexico, the Frontier Pro starts at 969,900 Mexican pesos, which is approximately 53,400 USD. This expansion is part of Nissan’s broader strategy to leverage its Chinese development and production capabilities to compete with Chinese automakers like BYD. This follows the June 2026 launch of the “Primera” in the Philippines, a model based on the “N7” electric sedan from the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture. Nissan aims to tailor its offerings to regional preferences, with plans to introduce gasoline versions specifically for the Middle Eastern market, while prioritising the PHEV version for its other global expansion regions.
