If there are two things car nuts love, it’s comebacks and throwbacks. Nissan, while a beloved brand, hasn’t exactly had an easy go in recent times. Its new CEO is determined to turn the ship around, though. A big part of the plan is to continue to capitalize on throwback designs that Nissan fans love, and possibly even some revivals that’ll set the enthusiast space on fire. The future is never certain, but recent remarks on Nissan’s next steps send a hopeful message regarding what's in store. Iconic Designs Return To Nissan’s Lineup NissanThe Drive recently probed Nissan’s new President and CEO, Ivan Espinosa, for answers on what he has to say to enthusiasts about recent designs that harken back to beloved models and future plans for the brand. “Nissan is back because we are back to our customers. We’re back to who we are as a company. We’re back to reuse and refresh our identity. We’re going to use some of the products that we had in the past, the products that resonated with older generations, but bridged them into younger generations, in the way of fresh technology, fresher design, but having the roots of Nissan. The DNA of Nissan. The history of Nissan,” Espinosa responded.Celebrating Nissan’s heritage is a big part of the plan moving forward. No doubt, this is exciting news for long-time fans who fell in love with Nissan in its heyday and younger drivers who missed out on it. One tactic discussed was the elements of the 300ZX that were baked into the design of the new Nissan Leaf.“We have a lot of history and we need to be proud of that history. So we’re going to keep hammering on it, and you will see a lot of products that will make you smile,” EspinosaThis is the sort of thing we can expect to see more of, based on Espinosa's remarks. Even if the Leaf isn’t your favorite cup of tea, it’s awesome to see a manufacturer break away from the soulless design trends of modern cars while rekindling the flame that fueled cultural icons in the past. More Classic Comebacks In Sight Nissan As cool as it is for any car to pay homage to its manufacturer's legacy, things are especially exciting when you consider the likelihood that we’ll see more enthusiast vehicles emerge with design elements shared with preceding generations. The latest Nissan Z is a shining example of how stunning the formula can be.That’s not to say all upcoming vehicles will take things as far as the Z. For example, Nissan has already stated that, while the 2027 Skyline will share aggressive, blocky styling cues with ‘60s models, it won’t be a retro design. In any case, it’ll be interesting to see how this approach will shape the entirety of Nissan’s lineup moving forward.
